Default Fill in the blank: Fanatics will ________ the sportscard industry.

My answer: be much worse than Upper Deck, Poopnini & Topps...collectively, ever were!

IMO, from what we've seen in the early goings of Fanatics'....."official takeover"....in the day to day operations of Topps, it ain't lookin' like a bowl of peaches for us klectors!

On the surface, it seems as though the only persons or groups of persons who might be inclined not to..... "b & moan" (in at least some capacity), are the breakers. 2023 Series 1 was a borderline-smooth, entry. However, with last weeks [Dutch auction] release of Sapphire, and now....with the absurdly-ridiculous pre-order price of $200/box for Series 2 Jumbos, it seems as though Fanatics isn't positioned to leave ANY meat on the bone for actual, card collectors/hobbyists! Moving forward, I think their "numbers & figures, department" is going to suggest/implement a price point where it makes it virtually irrational for anyone but the FOMO and impulsive klectors from buying the majority of their "good to premium", products. In short, it's just getting outta' hand over there @ Fanatics!!

While we were all wishful that Fanatics would....."redefine".....the sportscard industry, and change the hobby....for the better, IMO, it's becoming fairly apparent that the polar opposite effect, is unfolding before our very eyes. The only ones who will be satisfied,...top to bottom, are going to be:

Fanatics
Group Breakers
The lucky shmos who (overpaid, long term) hit a big pull in a break

Once again another guy who thinks all breakers are getting special treatment.

Not the case.

Fanatics has a small group of sponsored breakers - they get product. Most breakers and all local card shops, distributors and online sellers have been cut. My LCS was allocated a total of 1 hobby case and 2 jumbo boxes for Bowman and this is a guy who has bought everything Topps has offered in the last 20+ years. If anyone outside of the small Fanatics-sponsored group wants more wax these days, they have to buy at full price from Topps like the rest of us.

Fanatics wants to keep it all in house and sell at full market value. No middlemen, no "deals" online and they certainly don't mind holding onto inventory and letting it trickle out to keep prices high.

Breakers are not going to succeed buying product at full price from Topps, nor do they want to.

To be fair, the bolded have been the only ones satisfied with wax since roughly 2020 (swap distributors for Fanatics). From watching Bowman incrementally drop since release, and having seen Heritage drop PRE-release...I think it's fair to say a not-so-insignificant dent has been put into the casual breaker. Stuff flat out ain't moving, which is awesome.

1000x

They will mobilize their elite force of breakers to drown everyone in glorious mojo. Packs will be ripped at a pace that even Usain Bolt will think is fast. They’ll have to recruit Amazon delivery services to bring everything their mountains of hits.

One day we’ll all look back at the moment when Fartnatics made their move as the birth of a new age of hobbytopia.

Standardize. In three years, I expect a predictable release schedule and predictable pricing schemes both in terms of wax and breaking.
