Default Post a pic of a card you regret buying now, but kept anyways

add a pic and a story to go with it.

i'll start:

i never "prospected" before, but one summer, i started. i became a teacher and for the first time in about 10 years, i had an actual summer off. so i went hard on eBay and started dabbing into baseball and prospecting. i hit money with my Atlanta Braves and two prospects named Ozzie Albies ($50 for the pair for his BC auto and BC auto refactor, both bought on Blowout).

turned my attention to MLB Top 100 prospects, and went to Braves, and this kid named Ronald Acuna Jr. is listed at #1 for the Braves, so i went and bought up his BC autographed rookie. i believe the card cost me $400 at the time. that is the most $$$ i've ever spent on a prospect, a kid who hadn't even sniffed the pros yet.

so now i'm on fire, figure why not keep it rolling. what other Braves position player is on the list? Kevin Maitan, a 17 year old SS from Venezuela, who was ranked as the #1 international prospect when Atlanta signed him.

picked up his regular BC autograph, 9.5 true gem mint BGS with a 9 auto. ran me around $230.

today, these run for less than $20 i still have it, right by my bedside and all. idk why, i guess to remind me of what, idk exactly, but i keep it as a good/bad memory. a learning experience.

how about you all?

That was mine as well except it was a raw refractor auto of Maitan. Lesson learned on super young prospects.

Whats nuts is that I pulled a Maitan gold auto on release day and it sold for less than $300 back in 2017 on auction as a tier 1 player to pull from that product. The equivalent now goes for what... 3k? Perfect example of how offensive prospect prices have gotten and how stupid it is to pay 1st Bowman prices currently.

Mine are basketball cards. I honestly cannot stand this kid anymore. I wish I never wasted my money on these cards:

This card is a big factor in why I barely buy prospects these days. Paid something like $300+ for it.

His cards are blowing up right now, his raw base autos are going for around $80-90

When these were selling for $40, I paid $80 for this one

(auction / eBay / over 45 bids total ). Not a financial blow I’ll feel - but sure do feel it in the “I know what I’m doing” ego…..
