What ever happened to Bayron Lora, people thought he was gonna be great
I remember card investors telling people to buy this guy. Just checked out a recent orange Bowman Chrome 1st auto, sold for a whopping $60. What happened to him?

Pretty Houdini had to split up the Bayron Lora auto spot to a per case random because the price was so high! I had a spot in his 'Bayron Lora experiment' but didn't hit an auto. Am I remembering correctly?

Insert any name that 90% of the guys people are "investing" in and you'd have the same situation.

There's so many ways that collecting prospects is fun, and it's a garbage take for you to dismiss it like that. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk |

And to say vintage is where its at... I have tried so hard to get into vintage but buying random old guys I know nothing about, never saw them play but have value cause its an old card. I find no joy in that. If you like that side of the hobby, all the power to you. If that's where you like to spend your time and research go right ahead. It's definitely less volatile and I think speaks just to your overall risk level as a card buyer more than anything. I like researching the new guys, not the old. All about preference.

To get back on topic, injuries and beating baby mamas will do this to you.

True story:
A seller / breaker had three Bowman Chrome cases, and sold two to me personally. He opened the case for a break, and he pulled the Bayron Lora Superfractor Auto for the lucky Rangers slot winner. I wonder if this winner did sell the Super Auto yet... |

I remember buying a bunch of his (and Luciano and Marte and other guys I’m too embarrassed to list) first elite autos when they were DPL guys for like $1-3, and maybe a bit more for the low numbered ones. Made a nice little profit in that small window when they became known prospects but before they had bowman cards. I remember watching a grainy YouTube video of him hitting tanks as like a 14-15 year old and thinking “yeah, this is a guy prospector types will buy”. I may be revising history but I seem to recall that there was a lot less mainstream coverage of J2 guys prior to signing back in 2017ish.
Irrespective of his off the field stuff, I always thought he had an uphill battle to the bigs. A thing I learned a while ago was that (largely) amateur scouts and pro side scouts don’t always talk much or have the same evaluation criteria. And there are moments where a group of pro scouts will see a hyped recently signed guy and say “wait, this is the big money guy?”. A big example of this was Maitan who (evidently) pro side scouts saw and immediately panned. I heard chatter that Lora was in a similar boat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anybody remember Braves 3B prospect Héctor Olivera ? Think they are glad he washed out after beating his old lady and they ended up with Riley.

When was he a hot prospect? I'm usually good at remembering yesteryear hyped prospect names.... no clue who this guy is. What other prospects were popular that same time?

Modern player investments are straight up gambles and the house always wins. You want to flip? Buy vintage. That’s all there is to it. Cards as an addiction is awful. The high just doesn’t cut it.
I only collect for my PC. I don’t ever expect to profit. The stories are all over this message board. The expected value is jack squat. |
