Anyone have 03-04 Exquisite stories to reminisce about?

I opened about 10 cases of 03-04 Exquisite back in 2004 and I don't have any proof of it...my old website had several photos but back than we had Nokia phones and no smartphones...but anyway

I had pulled the following big cards:
Lebron /100 Patch Auto x 3
Lebron /99 RPA
Lebron Scripted Swatch
5X Lebron Quad Jersey
Jordan /100 Patch Auto x 2
Jordan /25 Patch Auto
Jordan Quad Jersey x 5
Erving/Bird/Magic/Jordan Quad Patch 06/10

I used to carry those main cards in a small plastic box and show them off, but than rent came along so I decided to sell everything...

I broke even..

This isn't a brag post, but reminiscing on what could have happened had I held all those cards..

Keep in mind these were just $500 per box at the time..

I had no clue that these would all be hundreds of thousands or million dollar cards..

Anyone else have exquisite 03-04 stories?

That’s insane op. You have my condolences.

I have nothing to contribute other than I wish I stayed in the hobby a couple more years just so I didn’t miss out on Exquisite and Black.

Mj limited logos x 2
Mj auto patch/100
Shaq base 1/1
Reggie miller EE/15 x 2
Melo, Bosh, Darko, Haslem/99 rpas
Wade limited logos
McGrady SS/25
Magic, bird, Rodman, Robinson number pieces

Missed out on Melo base 1/1 and Kobe number pieces/8, as I watched others open their cases from the same batch.

do you agree that exquisite 03-04 was loaded full of jordans and lebrons? I think its because just about every card was a star or superstar instead of scrubs

You did better than the odds for jordan and Lebron. I usually saw one every 3 cases.

They were the case hits obviously, as were the rookie rpa.

Did you get any other rpa/99 besides Bron?

I remember many brons were being pulled in the Texas and Midwest areas.

from my cases i got maybe 2-4 boxes like that. all the rest were super loaded

I'm sorry the OP had to experience this, but you're not alone.

Back around 2016 I paid a record price of 6,500 USD for a 1958 Alifabolaget Pele rookie in PSA 8.5. Back then, nobody gave a damn about soccer. Very few were spending that kinda' dough on them. Anyways, about a year later I got an offer for $13,500 USD and I decided to do it. The guy who bought it from me sold it for like $10,000 USD profit about a year later (I was happy for him - no big deal). But then, the pandemic came along and PSA 1 examples started going for like $30,000 USD or some crazy sh*t like that and I was FLOORED! My PSA 8.5 ended up being worth like $500,000 - 750, 000 USD at some point!!! A PSA 9 went for over a million!

Life is full of surprises, man. It just wasn't meant to be ...

I bought 2 cases presale for $500 each with the intent to hold long term but had a wax addiction back then. Opened both cases within 2 weeks of getting them! Pulled a D Wade 3 color RPA, Bird Numbers Pieces, Dr. J 3 color patch auto, nasty AI triple patch #/10 with all kinds of colors, but no MJ, Lebron, or Kobe. Opening those cases is still the worst decision I've probably made in life. But hey, it was fun opening them at the time!

Jeff has the complete 2003-04 limited logo set. With Jordan Kobe lebron.

Not sure what is worth. Probably was half million during pandemic?

I used to collect Stephon Marbury in those days. I remember getting the Emblems of Endorsement /15 in the mail and being absolutely blown away with the quality and beauty of the card.

I also put together the full 2003-04 Exquisite Base set in around 2005/2006 for around $1000-$1200 and sold it within a year for a slight loss because I was a poor college kid.

It was definitely a game-changing set and it made me change the way I approached card collecting forever!

I remember selling my base singles to a dealer for $2 apiece.

At least I got $40 for a base jordan!!!

I opened only 1 box, about 2 years after the fact which was a huge risk at $2500 a box. It hurt. My best card was a Larry Bird triple patch /10 which sold suprisingly well, but not well enough at the increased price tag at the time

Assuming you mean $500 a box presale costs - the lowest these cases were on presale was BO had them for about $1200 for a while.

$500 a box was at least 5x the next closest box price. Ultimate was $100 a box or so and $500 was crazy.
