We got lucky with 2022 Score because of the delays they wound up picturing many rookies in NFL uniforms. That's actually what made some of the NFL Chronicles releases interesting, it was Score but updated with NFL unis (plus optic).

Score rookies through the years
2021 - college
2020 - college
2019 - college
2018 - college
2017 - college
2016 - college
2015 - college

I think 2014 at least had NFL logos, though jerseys weren't.

Not to be negative - but what is the allure of Score?

I mean, it's not for the rookies. Because they are in college uni's. If they had a bigger base checklist of veterans including first cards for fan favorites (O-Line, Special Teams, etc) at least that would be something.

I don't get it.

The photography is uncommonly good for a Panini product. They were a nice early season set to build. Though in recent years Panini positioned Prestige and Donruss with same checklist sizes which has reduced interest.

Prestige would usually be the first with NFL logos with college unis and Donruss the first with NFL gear (or training camp or combine gear) and NFL logos.

There was some breathing room between Score, Prestige, Donruss releases but with manufacturing issues and everything getting pushed out (and the NFL schedule NOT getting pushed out), it's squeezed out the potential for those early releases with the regular season hitting and the demand for full NFL uniforms unquenched. Makes college-bound Score and Prestige less appealing. /imo

With the awful release schedule, a majority of these products just become obsolete.

I suppose. I just... I'm not a snob about value or releases, I like cards of all sets... Doesn't have to be a monster release or "Super Mojo RPA 1/1" for me to see something worth collecting. But Score lives in no man's land. It's curious.

What's the "hook"?

I'd like Score better if they didn't have such an underwhelming checklist. If this is hyping the NFL season, give me players I know, even if they aren't big names. No one is getting rich off of Score.

For example this came out of 2016 Score. Great looking card. Vet player, kinda/sorta fan favorite. If Score is going to come out early, add an extra 5 players to the checklist for each team like this:

It's also the brand with their longest lineage ... 1989.

I really enjoyed picking up dirt cheap singles of 2022 Score. With the inclusion of pro uniform rookies, it separated itself from previous years. This feels like two steps back.

Oh well. FOTL Dutch Auction will probably sell out at $541.50 anyways

One of the first releases of the season and traditionally some of the best action photography of any set.

This, it's the ultimate entry-level set for new collectors that is affordable.

Nothing licensed is affordable now. And hasn't been affordable for quite some time. I remember a time when the LCS would strategically place sealed boxes of Score by the cash register for the impulse buyers.

Now he keeps those same unsold sealed boxes of Score behind the counter in a locked display case.

"Affordable"? Theoretically it is, compared to other releases. Bang for your buck? Hell no.

For those chatting it up a bit - do you actually buy any of it, beyond a pre-season boredom blaster box buy?

I like Score for what it is, although designs have been less than inspiring the last few years. But Score to me is always the "kickoff" for the 2023 collecting season. It's not first off the presses but has a decently deep checklist compared to the earlier 2023 products.

Same here. I wish it was released at the beginning of training camp like they used to though.

Funny how the people who hate it will still buy it, then bitch because they didn’t get a qb auto.

I buy a master set every year, then buy autos and parallels on eBay. I used to buy boxes until the new money ruined that.

The Waddle/Hill Dual is cool. Don't recall Score having dual auto sets that weren't draft-related. I like score because it is a good cheaper* option. Fun for kids because there are TONS of insert lines. Wish it had stayed actually cheap.

It looks like I'm in the minority here, but I like the way it looks, and as someone who really likes NCAA and NFL both appearing in sets, which has taken place in previous Score releases, as well as Elite, Prestige, etc., I'm all for it.

I agree, it's like Topps with their "Lower End" products with tons of players, boatloads of parallels, a reasonable chance at a good auto - Score is one of those surprising products that sells well every year, they could just make a few tweaks and it would be a GREAT product!

I don’t see how it’s an underwhelming checklist. To me, an underwhelming checklist is 100 veterans and 100 rookies, 90% who will bust.
