Default 2023 Topps Star Wars

Just got an email that they are doing pre-orders for a "first ever flagship" Star Wars set on 7/7. Hadn't heard anything about this, but looks like another paper set across different Star Wars properties?

On the email it shows a Super Box? What is that, a retail box with a widevision card? It says look for Rare autographs and even Rarer printing plates lol. So I take that to mean no sketches and not even one hit per box. Need way more info Topps.

I wonder how tough this insert will be to get a 10?

In addition, Lightsaber Stylings showcases the Jedi's weapon of choice. According to Topps, the "cards will be cut from print sheets by actual lightsabers."

Anything over $100 for 1 auto out of 90+ actors, I’m good.

I doubt it will be tougher than any other funky cut - so, pretty darn tough but not impossible. I wonder if they're just trying to be cute with that language on the sell-sheet, or if maybe they're actually laser-cutting these instead of die-cutting them?

They did crazy intricate laser cutting way back in 1996 and that set has a ~11% PSA gem rate (but only out of 315 cards graded so take the rate with a grain of salt). At least that shows that laser cutting doesn't preclude a 10.

Yeah, it should be similar in makeup to the 2023 Chrome set (in terms of the multi-movie/TV show base set, plus various insert sets), but without the chrome.

I'll get a couple of boxes tomorrow if I can. Since they don't go on-sale until 9am local time, and I don't like to goof around on my phone at work, I'll have to go in to work a little late to do so, but they'll probably understand...

I’ve been itching to open some wax so maybe I will pick up a couple boxes too.

Hopefully the holograms look cool in hand…

And the long odds Portman chase…

Is this what they're calling a hologram nowadays? Looks almost more like a lenticular

It looks that way unless I pulled the wrong photo. Cardboard connection says “The Hologram cards reimagine Star Wars art using the '90s card style

That card appears to be neither hologram nor art.

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. Companies are getting a bit liberal with the term hologram these days, not unlike what UD is doing in marvel with annual. What happened to good ol 3D holos from the 90s Who knows maybe it'll look more like one in person.

The stock image does make it look like it will be more of a lenticular.

I’m rooting for topps to figure out a way to add non auto value to Star Wars

But as of right now I will not touch Star Wars products.

Hopefully that changes

$400 is pretty temping for a case.

Is this stuff just really junk?

Yeah I'm wondering the same. You'd think they'd make the "first flagship" offering at least semi-decent?
