I know many people have quit opening wax, but I still dig at it on a regular basis because that’s how I hobby.
Does anyone ever get into a product and keep buying until they get that hit? Could be a case hit or a specific insert, something that will cause you to keep going at a product until you’ve had that experience of hitting that certain insert. I was able to achieve two recently - I finally hit an auto out of 2022 Allen and ginter chrome - chipper jones. These are supposedly one per case. Also finally hit a retro pmg out of 2021 metal universe champions (yes, I was still opening this product, lol) - Shane wright - these cards still look awesome in person. It’s funny, usually when I pull that specific type of hit I am looking to experience, I’m done with the product and go on to the next challenge. I usually open Allen ginter every year and then stop after I finally pull a rip card. Some years, I hit one in the first box I open, and other years it takes 5-6 boxes. I always get the boxes from different sources, 1-2 boxes at a time so I don’t “cheat” and spend too much at once by getting a whole case anymore. Anyone else have these insert hit bucket list goals? I still have yet to pull an Ohtani auto of any kind and other bowman chrome autos that I desire, but I have pulled superfractor autos, cut autos and other hard to pull inserts in the past. I have no desire to pull a tacofractor, however. |

When I got back into the hobby in 2018/2019 I opened an godly amount of 94' Upper Deck until I was able to actually pull the M/G dual auto.
I've stopped doing that as it's a waste of money imo and just purchased singles.

It’s funny, in 1996, I also went hard after the Alex Rodriguez auto in 1994 upper deck series 2, and I finally hit it in my second case. |

Keeps the prices high on wax when people have no control, talk about a detriment to the hobby. Take that wax money and buy your dragon. |

Most cards can be found and purchased on line 24 hours a day seven days a week, which can be boring or too easy. Certain cards that you will never be able to own can only be pulled to secure. Furthermore, to some there is some value to the experience of pulling your own card. You know it hasn’t been altered. Last edited by hermanotarjeta; 08-23-2023 at 10:26 AM. |

AG when it first came out was $150 and metal universe was $750!!!!!!! The addicts did their breaks of metal universe at $750. I’m glad to open at a more reasonable $100, which is about $20 over cost. |

It’s been much more reasonable lately in baseball with the products breakers want to avoid. There are some nice little treasures to pull when the right price comes along. I’ve been patient during the pandemic and I’ve been able to bust more recently.

I actually did this once - my buddy and I bought 4 cases from of 1992 Donruss from an LCS going-out-of business to try to pull an Elite. Got one in the middle of case 2, and sold the rest sealed. Haven’t touched the product since

Everytime I see the card I get serious waves of nostalgia. I remember the old run down house that was a card shop where I bought the pack... I had no idea what odds or inserts were I just knew I wanted cool cards of players I liked. I also remember the ride home opening the packs (OG car ripping) and seeing the Elite. I remember my mom asking me if I got a good card. THAT feeling. As soon as I got home I put it in top loader and bought a screw down next time at the card store. I pulled a Trout Dynasty 1/1 and that feeling paled in comparison to the Bonds elite 30 years ago. I guess at times I am just an addict-boi chasing the feeling of being young and surprised again ![]() |

I’ve always wanted to pull a 1998 bowman chrome anniversary refractor/5. I’ve pulled an /50 non refractor version before, but a refractor would be an ultimate high.

Have always thought about buying some cases of the 91/92/93 Upper Deck and trying my luck at the "Find The Hank, Ted, Nolan's".
But yah after spending what could be what the card sells for now raw on boxes, the itch has been scratched.

I’ve always wondered “what if ?” when looking at upper deck boxes of that time period, I don’t know anyone personally who has pulled one before, even though they are numbered in the thousands. |

I dreamed of pulling a 98 E/X Essential Credentials as a kid. I bought 1 box in 2014 or something and pulled one. I pulled a 98 PMG as a youngster, but I would like another one as an adult.

Bought 2 hobby boxes of 1998-99 Skybox Premium when I came back to the hobby. Got lucky and pulled a Kendall Gill Rubies.

I’ve never pulled either in baseball, but was lucky enough to pull those in basketball boxes before. I’ve even been fortunate enough to pull flair legacy masterpieces before in baseball - those were a thrill, and in four consecutive boxes to boot! Has anyone ever pulled a score mantle auotgraph out of packs before? |

A few years ago, I bought box of 98 Bowman Series 1 for the fun of opening some Jimmy Rollins rookies for myself. Pulled 2 base, though an International foil would have really made my day.

There isn't really a hobby, for me, without opening boxes/cases. |
