Default Ohtani re-tears UCL, will not pitch again this year

Whelp....... probably doom for his pitching career. Horrible timing as well as his FA value is likely cooked by 40%.

That’s a bummer. Baseball is better with Ohtani at full strength.

Should've re-signed with the Halos mid-season. I always thought he should sign the big 9-figure deal and just quit pitching, but now the injury came first. Will this impact his ability to play the outfield long-term? Has he gone from the modern, better Babe Ruth to David Ortiz?

But I heard be was the greatest athlete on the planet.

LeBron, Giannis, Jokic, Mahomes, Messi… they couldnt play offense and defense the way Ohtani does!

But I guess Ohtani can’t either.

But he could still continue to hit though for the rest of the season, right?

GM said it was unknown if he would continue to serve as DH the rest of the season. Highly unlikely IMO.

Even if Ohtani never pitches again in his career, it’s still amazing what he was able to do for a few seasons. We’ll probably never see another player pitch & hit at an elite level again. I’m sure he will continue to be a big hitter. His card value will obviously drop some, but if he continues to hit bombs, he will still be one of the hobby kings. That’s my two cents on it.

I hope all the best of Ohtani. He turned a lot of kids into baseball fans, which is always good for the game.

Trout is also back on the DL.

The difference is that instead of being the revolutionary player who bring baseball back, he becomes a flash in the pan who had a few amazing years.

Hopefully he winds up with a perennial winner so he can at least add some post season to his resume and separate himself from a guy like Trout.

As an angels fan the only good news is likely he may stay in LA.

This guy doesn’t deserve this, very unfortunate and hope to see him back at full strength soon.

You would assume if it affects his pitching it will also have the same result with him hitting, why risk it getting worse.

Second Tommy John surgery coming most likely. This could easily go the way of a Derrick Rose or Grant Hill type situation

Yes. Part of the problem with modern prospecting is you aren’t reasonably compensated for your risk on a player that is still playing beyond just, “What if he doesn’t play good?” This is exhibit A.

Anyway I suspect once the east coast wakes up, it’s fire sale time. For those of you where this is your first drill I refer you to the climactic scene in Margin Call. “For those of you who have never been through this before, this is the beginning of the fire sale looks like.”

You have to price aggressively. If you are trying to get back what you put in a week or two ago, that is a choice to baghold. You will not sell and at that point your strategy will be hope. Hope that he comes back and somehow continues as a both a pitcher and torrid hitter.

I just hope he goes ahead and gets surgery very soon. I always hate seeing pitchers try the rehab first then end up wasting 6-9 months and then still needing the surgery anyways. Hopefully he can just call it quits for the season, get the surgery as soon as possible come back ready to hit next year like Harper and be fresh and ready to go in 25
