Default (Edit)A Bonds Card Has Not Sold Publicly in At Least a Decade, You Want It, Price?

Basically the title. A card that to my knowledge has not sold publicly in a decade, perhaps 15 years is available to me. The owner has no idea what the value is and neither do I but we know it's significant. What do you do in this situation? This would be a major major grail card.

[Edit/Additional Info] Other posters asked I share more information so I'm just going to tell you the card to get the help I need. It's the 2001 Topps Chrome Barry Bonds Originals Refractor which hand numbered to 10 on the back. Pics below. Most people have no clue what this card is. Don't even know it exists. One part of me is like, ok it's a rare jersey card with no sig which isn't crazy. The other part of me is like, Oh my word, this is the greatest Bonds jersey card ever, nothing else matters when it stands in the shadow of this card. Pics below. Thoughts?

Both write a number on a napkin, then trade napkins.

Title is way too vague for anyone to help you.
Find comps with similar cards. That's all you can do

There is nothing similar. Literally nothing. 10 copies. The only data cardladder can find from anyone in the entire set is 2006.

Yeah, with no information on what or who it is, I'm not sure how anyone can help price it.

Look at similar players/sets and come up with a number.

Since there's nothing to compare it to, decided on a number you feel good on and the seller does the same thing. Go from there. Reach an agreement that you both are comfortable/happy with.

If there's no comps and nothing similar, not sure how either side could feel like they are getting ripped off if you both leave the deal happy.

You have the easy job. Make an offer.

If I'm the seller, I'm not going to talk to just one person if this is a grail card with only 10 copies. If the seller does not want to maximize their profits by using an auction or at least talking to more than buyer, then don't let them! Make sure the offer is a good one!

A few non-refractor patches from the same set have gone between $230-270, so it's definitely going to be a big number. Offer what you are comfortable offering given that it's a grail card for you, but it's probably going to take $2000ish I would imagine.

Just a guess.

This is my dilemma. I'd give $2,000 for this card in a heartbeat. Owner thinks it's going for over 5k. I think he may be right (and I can also see a world where he is very off). But I also may be very wrong on thinking he is right and horribly overpay. I appreciate the opinion though, truly.

Someone posted this on another board talking about cards they were looking for a few months ago. No proof of anything, but he seemed willing to go in that range to buy one.

2001 Topps Chrome Originals Refractors - Topps Chrome Jersey Refractors (can go up to $1-2k depending on which card)

I think $5,000 is too high, but when something hasn't seen the light of day in a long time, it can drive the price up for sure.

Use the lack of comps as an advantage- throw out a low number you’d be willing to pay / if the seller accepts it, great. If not, it was low to begin with and you can up it a bit.
Point out to the seller there are no comps - it is your bargaining power

Looks like the base patch cards have been selling between $100-$200 and fall 1:1,783. The /10's fall 1:9,644. Maybe use a multiplier to get your number, 4x or something.

This listing is 8 years old, and probably went cheap even back then given everything that was in it.

https://robertedwardauctions.com/auc...ard-collection

8 of the 10 from the 2001 set are in this listing.

So very helpful. Thanks so much. While this is awhile ago, still hard to believe this card could get 5k today when I look at those prices, even if it did indeed go cheap.

Just make an offer and wait for his counter if yours doesn’t suffice. At the end of the day, it’s his card, his price.

How bad does he want to sell it and how bad do you want it?

I want it pretty bad. I think it's probably a top 10 Bonds card post 2000. He wants to sell but he's pretty patient and will sit on it for a good while. Don't think he needs the money but he is ready to part with it.

Did you make an offer yet? Or is he just flat out asking for $5k for it?
