He was awesome. Hated watching him blow up the Niners when they were in the NFC West together.

Seems like only 5 modern era players make it every year(except the COVID years), based on finalists from last year and the 1st ballot guys, this is my list.

Pretty solid guess. Maybe Holt if he's been waiting longer, I don't recall when he retired.

TE Ben Coates deserves to be in the HOF.

Coates was Gronk before Gronk. Hope he gets in one day. So many athletes have come after him and put up wild numbers, but when he retired he was ninth all-time in TE yards and third in TDs (still 14th in scores). 2xAP, 5 Pro Bowls, 2nd Team All 90s.
Pats leading receiver in the SB they lost to GB. Tacked on a ring in his final season with the Ravens, 3 catches for 30 yards in that SB, his final game. |

It really depends. There are running backs in the HoF who's careers were cut short yet made it like Gale Sayers. I'd argue that both Alexander and Holmes 5 year stretch was on par or better than just about any other back in NFL history.
Shaun Alexander 2001-2005 80 games, 7504 yards rushing, 87 rushing td's, 8850 yards/scrimmage 11 rec TD's. *these 5 seasons alone would put Alexander 23rds all time in Touchdowns. This total is more than Eric Dickerson, Jerome Bettis, Marshawn Lynch, and Tony Dorsett's entire career. Not only that, Shaun Alexander almost single-heandedly turned and franchise from loser to the super bowl. Priest Holmes 2001-2004 54 games 5482 yards rushing, 70 td's, 2163 yards receiving, 6 rec TD's, 7645 yards from scrimmage (nearly averaged 150 yards per game and 1.5 touchdowns a game during this stretch). The year he got injured he was on pace for 30 touchdowns. Both of these stretches are legendary and given the short span of running backs in the league I think put them in full contention for the HoF. Tiki Barber is another guy who does not get the credit he deserves for being as great as he was. Tiki Barber 2002-2006 (final five seasons) 80 games 7643 yards rushing 2623 yards receiving, 10,274 yards/scrimmage So basically Tiki had a 5 year stretch where he averages 2054 yards a season. Only 53 times in the history of the game has 2054 yards from scrimmage been eclipsed and he averaged it for a 5 year stretch.

Willis, Gates, and Peppers would be my top 3 as well.
I think this is the year they pick two of these WRs to clear some backlog I'll say Hines and Andre Johnson but you can make an argument for any of them really. |
