No. Creates a personal connection to the card. Sticker autos are overrated. Non rc cards are mostly overrated. But give me a Stan Musial Real One or Century legends epic over just about any of his cards made after 1953. Will Trout or griffey or modern type guys who keep signing year after year be overrated? Maybe? But so will every other card they have too then, so in relation, no they won't be overrated.

I've never been a fan of autos in general.
But. I like a nice auto card if it's well-designed, on card and has a good signature.

On-card autographs provide good evidence that the athlete touched the same card you own, it provides a more personal connection to the athlete.
Yes, they are worth the premium. |

Not to me. i think it’s pretty cool to have a hard signed auto of a player I like.

IP are not overated, especially IP autos of Hall of Famers.
Now, the facsimile autos, those I don't really care for. |

The ink on my postcards, cards, 8x10s and note cards connect me to 100s years of history. So no I don't think they are over-rated

On card or IP autos are pretty cool.
I almost like IP autos more since its a nice addition to the card that is from the athlete on it. Plus it gives it a very unique feature that another one may not have (different pen color, auto location, additions to the actual auto, quotes, personalized, etc). I like how some guys are now doing that with on-card autos too, adding a message and putting more time into it vs scribbling two letters as their signature.

Obviously, my IP autos mean much more to me than autograph cards I pull from a box of cards or purchase as singles.

They're not really my PC thing, but I do own a few in the instances where there is an auto version of a card that I really like.. They would probably mean more to me if I collected the autos myself, but that's difficult because anytime I've actually run into an athlete I've never had a card on me, and haven't been willing to interrupt them having dinner or whatever to sign something.

Generally speaking, yes.
Guys like Griffey, Trout, Acuna, and Soto will have 100k+ pack issued autos by time they are dead.

Funny topic imho. I've had conversations with my father and he asks from time to time why non-auto/patch etc like SPs and chase inserts are worth so much without a sig. I can convince him in regards to RC designation but unless it's a fairly unique card in design, he would think a sig on it or highly coveted patch would be preferred.
I've pointed out the change in memorabilia swatches and where they come from and even the faked patch issues. He agrees on the sticker autos being eye sores many times. I try to only buy sticker sigs at this point if the card also has a patch as well. And as mentioned above, they generally are easier to resell if need be. Parallels can be an enigma unless jersey #'d or really low like < /10. Inserts without s/n better be visually low on population as in when you go to sell you someone can only find 1 other. Case hits have been abused atrociously across all sports imho. As for the true heart of the OP, as in the signature itself applies a premium over the counterpart of the same card? Like several cards have the non-auto and the auto version/parallels. Depends a ton on the card design and if the card is hard-signed. If the design is fairly accepted as cool then the non-auto may very well be highly coveted. But a hard-signed copy where the sig has good spot on the design, then it will absolutely outsell the non 10 out of 10 times imho.

I personally don't do autos. I feel like it is vandalization of the card.

Autographs in general are weird. If I met someone famous that I admired, the last thing I would do is whip out a cocktail napkin and have them scribble their name on it. Having pack-issued autos on cards is even less attractive to me because you weren’t even the one to get it in person. For cards, give me a SSP numbered parallel any day.

I like them, but not at the current premium
I’m willing to pay maybe 2x for one… …they seem to be at 4x or more now… …given they aren’t rare I’m passing (mostly) for now, and will wait for the eventual downward revision in pricing …plus it’s made collecting classic parallels much easier as the “investor” crowd seems too focused on autos ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
