Default What risks do zero feedback ebay buyers have despite authentication?

I just got an offer for $350 for a card and the guy has zero feedback. He also seems a little too excited in his messages to me to get the card. If this were my card, I would just do it. But it's for a family member I'm helping sell a card.

As a seller, what risks should I consider despite the fact this will go through authentication?

Thank you for any advice

Once card is authenticated you the SELLER are done in the transaction. Any issues the buyer might have after authentication is between buyer and ebay.

I usually trust the zero feedback buyers. If I were in your shoes I would explain the situation to your family member and let them decide.

That's what was busting my brain. Authentication has always felt like a big win for sellers to me, but in the communities all I saw was complaining. And all I could think was... doesn't this remove the "you never said it was damaged" and "never arrived" scammers leaving no options for them?

As long as seller gets the item to the authentication place and the item is authenticated, yes, this is a great selling process for sellers. Removes potential buyer scamming from honest/legit sellers.

Explain the process to the zero feedback buyer because it may seem odd that it takes so long to get the card, or the tracking appears to go in the wrong direction (geographically).

*If* you have no returns as your setting, transaction is out of your hands and you are good as the seller once it gets authenticated. Buyer cant claim not received or item not as described and have it affect you.

If you have returns on, then buyer could still return it to you, it'll go back through authentication.

There has been talk in the ebay forum and elsewhere that someone could still attempt a CC chargeback down the road even after authentication. I have not heard one actual case of this to date, of a seller actually being out the money after their card gets authenticated. I need to see one concrete example of that before I'll believe it. Ebay has seller protections and they will almost no doubt cover that even if it did happen (which would be exceedingly rare, never had it happen to me).

Ebay AG is a great thing for the seller and you should be assured by it. Even when 0 feedback buyers are involved.

People tend to only be vocal when they have an issue or are wronged. You don't hear every success story because they're more commonplace. I've sent more than a couple dozen items through auth and only had two problem orders, both my fault.

Once you send the card and its authenticated you don't need to worry about the buyer.

You can’t know it will go through authentication before he buys it. Unless they changed the rules for P.O. Boxes and international buyers.

Good point.

Of course if it is international and going through Ebay International shipping program, it may as well be Authentication in that you are covered once it goes through ebay's shipping hub. No INR or INAD should affect you, ebay handles it.

In the perhaps unlikely event of a PO Box, if a seller was really that afraid of a scam they'd probably cancel if buyers address turned out to be PO box, we all know ebay barely does anything for that. Not saying any sale should be canceled, but Im sure there are sellers out there who might in this case. Maybe OP could inquire beforehand if it will be going to a PO box.
