Default What’s the cost of nostalgia?

What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a sports card/collectible for nostalgia sake?

Not something you intend to resell in the future ever, just something you purchased to keep as a friendly reminder of the good old days?

I’m getting close to 70 Todd Jones autos from 1996 Leaf Signature series. I pick them up whenever I see them under $10. I’ve also spent money on other autos of his and I have some PSA 10 rookie cards. In the aggregate that’s the most I’ve spent on nostalgia as he’s my favorite Tiger from the 90’s and 2000’s.

My absolute favorite is a $5 eBay purchase, a brand new 1993 Batman figurine from the animated series. I was 7 when it originally came out and I carried one around with me everywhere for a lot of my youth. The new one sits on my mantle.

$10 for a 89 Fleer Billy Ripken FF. Bought it from the guy that pulled it probably 10-12 years ago. It may have been a tad high at the time but I knew it wasnt a fake since I knew he pulled it himself.

I bought this a while back and cannot remember how much I spent on it.. I’ll guess between $10-15?

I was a huge Walt Weiss fan when he won rookie of the year. For some reason, I really loved his rookie cup flagship card. I had to eventually get one in a PSA fine nine

Zero dollars. That's what memories and pictures are for.

Hermano, it's not healthy to constantly live in the past.

Collecting is not healthy?

It’s feels fantastic when you don’t have to focus on dollars and cents.

C’mon flippers don’t wax nostalgic just like dealers don’t get high on their supply

I keep some 80s bb and 90s bk boxes in my office, both as a decoration and to open a pack for fun every now and then. Definitely makes me think of collecting as a young kid. Probably spend $50 a year or something.

I can't stop picking up 1991 Topps Chipper Jones cards. Raw, graded, destroyed, doesn't matter. That was my favorite card as a 6 year old and still holds a special place.

I would have spent 5k on this holy grail, but the seller won't budge and wants 8k. I'll just wait it out.

I'm in love with modern autographed cards that are old card designs (Archives, Heritage), so I've spent a lot on that trash.

I am a sucker for my favorite players growing up. I pick up rarer cards, parallels or autos of Phil Plantier and Juan Guzman. Thankfully I also collected Chipper Jones, Mark McGwire, Don Mattingly and Derek Jeter.

One of these days I’ll buy a 1988 Dan Marino Starting Lineup purely for nostalgia sake, but I just don’t collect action figures anymore, so I keep putting it off.

I do the same thing with the 1996 leaf signature series Jeff Reed his only certified auto. My wife was opening nail awhile back and kept seeing them probably about 10 that time. I have close to 100. I only get them under $5 with free shipping.

Can't say I've ever bought a card that I intended to resell. So pretty much every card I buy that isn't ultra modern is bought purely on nostalgia. Even some cards from before I was born are nostalgic because of my desire for them when I was a child.

Drakes baseball from the 80s and Hostess panels from the 70s...maybe $100 for massive amounts of that..not 'spensive.

Now the 1st ever stuff I opened was '78 rack packs from Brownstone drug store in 1979. (Baseball) and '78 football racks from Warehouse foods.

That would be a lil more pricy so no to that.

Maybe not a ton on one card but in total probably quite a bit. I collect cards that were popular long ago and now are not. Just bought an Ian Stewart Pros Premieres 9.5 auto for 8 dollars. It was 200-300 years ago so I feel I got a good deal and am very happy to finally own it.
