Default What is the latest with Panini and their NFLPA license?

I just spoke with someone at Panini who said that they did not lose their NFLPA license. The latest I read is that the case is in arbitration.

I ask because I am considering buying a few Panini autograph redemptions and losing their license might lessen the likelihood I would receive the card.

If Panini loses the arbitration case is it a stone cold lock that I would not receive the cards? The cards are 2023 Donruss.

Playing a dangerous game. I'd go for something that's not a redemption instead (I realize that may not be possible for certain players or cards, but it's just not worth the risk to me.)

The player is Aaron Rodgers. Does anyone know if he has some type of exclusive contract with Panini?

What I want to know are how many chromium products are we looking at for football in the next few years?

Are we going to see Bowman Chrome, Topps Chrome, Prizm, Optic, and Select all stick around under the Fanatics license?

Panini seems adamant that they will not sell the brands to Fanatics but maybe once they realize they're fighting a losing battle they'll give up and take the money

Fanatics seems to be in all in, with its established Topps legacy brands. Loook at yesterday big social media event with Brady and the bowman chrome. And the success of BUC football.

Currently tied up in the courts, where it will likely remain until the contract expires anyway.

I was thinking this. Could it really be in court for 3 years? Is there precedent for this?

If you Google "how long does an antitrust lawsuit take" it says...

For example, in an antitrust case involving two companies, the case might be concluded, through either summary judgment or trial, within two years. If there is an appeal, it could take an additional one year.

I open almost exclusively low-end stuff so I have received exactly one Panini redemption card. It was for a JaMarr Chase Absolute auto. It's been two years and nary a sight of the card. A few polite emails to Panini have gone unanswered.

Personally, I collect as a form of stress relief. The last thing I need is to give myself an ulcer worrying about unfulfilled redemptions from a company on the cusp on bankruptcy.

Seems like business mostly as usual right now. Would bet there’s additional action on Fanatics side to try to get in earlier though, so no guarantees on anything. About as big of a question mark as you could have.

World would be better off without Poopnini.

At this point, it seems Panini is simply going to hold onto the licenses until they expire. Then Fanatics will take over.

I suppose it is possible fanatics buys some of the Panini brand licenses, such as "Absolute" or "Certified" but I honestly doubt they will. Owning the Topps brand gives them enough name diversity as it is.

Is them losing their license the reason they don't have any NON-DRAFT product autos of Stroud, Levis, etc?

One good thing about Topps, they don't give Panini points. If something is supposed to have an auto, you get it

Those guys signed exclusive autograph deals with Fanatics. Although it has not been said the extent of the exclusivity.

I am sure some of that is being brought into the countersuit by Panini for Fanatics acting like a monopoly

They don't care about the brands/IPs at this point. They want to be able to make cards with NFL uniforms and they need Panini to relent and/or lose the licenses for that.

Well, IIRC, they still have to wait 3 years before they can do that (unless some sort of buyout is arranged).

That's my point. Not saying it'll happen definitively, but Fanatics doesn't want to wait that long. It's why they tried to get it terminated already. Will they have success via other avenues? Maybe, maybe not, but I'd be surprised if they don't keep pushing the envelope to try to get in earlier.

I just got a panini shipment notice. I don’t even know what it is or what it’s for.

Might be getting a Prizm pack for an old redemption.

Yes they tried - and failed.

I can't exactly say I have seen the contract between Panini and the NFL or the contract between Panini and the NFLPA but I would find it hard to believe they are not iron clad.

it did say 2022 Prizm.

I think this was for a 2016 Deforest Buckner redemption he just never signed. I think it's my last outstanding unfulfilled redemption. I had all but forgotten about it - I requested a replacement 2 years ago.
