Default The dfwcardshark Ebay Superfractor Scandal

I saw this on Twitter and saw Topps state they were looking into it. Topps "We have been made aware of this account and are actively investigating." I guess an Ebay seller name dfwcardshark was selling loads of rare cards that are potentially duplicates or assumed taken out the backdoor from Topps or the printing shop for them. Read they had lots of rarities from other brands too and not just baseball.

One person looking into it claims that this seller had 12% of all 2023 Bowman Draft Superfractors. Then lots of talk and people mad that if those are the real ones did they ever even have a chance etc. etc. Anyway, seemed like a relevant thing to know about that is going on and I could not find a thread here about it.

Dude could’ve kept stealing printing plates for a decade without anyone noticing but had to get greedy. Still probably small potatoes compared to what really goes out the back door.

That was the most shocking part. That he was so dumb to dump all them at once so early. Although criminals are usually greedy and dumb so maybe it shouldn't have.

Just check his feedback history. Gets greedier and greedier.

Did he announce that again?

Because I thought they had already been doing independent audits for a while to prove they weren't hand picking who was getting the best cards and that everything was random

The Rubin quote is from an article referencing that alleged, ongoing independent audit within Fanatics, not directly related to this recent issue.

Just thought it could be relevant to this story. Yet another issue, in the year Topps/Fanatics is supposedly being monitored. Yikes.

Thanks. Just checking to make sure he hadn't responded to this already

Isn’t that hard to stop cards from being backdoored. They just don’t care until it affects them. And I doubt this issue will affect them.

It would be pretty easy to stop that sh*t. Not sure why they do not.

While your point isn't entirely unwarranted, Ethan Salas, Jackson (& Jaison) Chourio, Luisangel Acuna, Felnin Celesten, Ryan Clifford are all pretty popular/well-known guys within the prospecting/fantasy circles.

Even casual baseball fans have heard of Salas.

I would love to see how he connects the dots. The United States government and Topps are basically the same thing, right?

According to the Youtube video from NEO, his assertion is that they are kind of like error cards that were supposed to be dumped and didn't. Or they were and someone working there was dumpster diving. The true sign is that the 1/1 marking which on the regular product is one place in the card is the complete opposite. You would THINK a printing company would have some kind of shredder to deal with this but that depends on whether they consider it an issue or not

Brings up another question. Fanatics is trying everything possible to control this hobby by buying the competition and kissing up to the influencers and breakers. But what about Ebay? Is Ebay so big that frankly they don't need to have Michael Rubin make them offers they can't refuse? It isn't like they can buy up something like BuySportsCards and make that even remotely bigger. Now expecting Ebay to be the only policeman on this stuff is a scary thought but short of a couple social media stuff it is probably it.

Unfortunately, there's always going to have to be a person (or people) in charge of actually putting the waste into the shredder. Tough to eliminate every possible point of failure (i.e., in this case, potential theft opportunity) in the process.

I think it is probably difficult for honest random sorting and to avoid worker corruption.

But strict processes and checks can handle it.

"Every second that passes is another collector lost"

The hyperbole is really something with these tweets. Who cares?

Lots of drama queens in this hobby. Usually old stiff guys trying to feel better about themselves by complaining about high prices and breaking. All the people doing that must live in their parents basement. Meanwhile, they non-stop whine and moan online. The irony is too much!

I imagine this person is dumb enough to be known at the Dallas show. So who are they?
