Default 1997 Pacific Revolution is the best looking football base card ever

Looking through my cards tonight. Have a good variety across sports and years - from 1960s to present.
Can say, without question, that the 1997 Pacific Revolution football is the best looking set IMO. Diamond encrusted gold with a beautiful overall design. Love it. Don’t know why Pacific doesn’t get much hobby love. So many current brands are based on products Pacific originally created.

Pics don’t do it justice but can see it herehttps://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/sid/4025

There are people who recognize how beautiful late 1990s Revolution was and then there are blind people.

A little too gaudy for me. I’ll take either 99 SPX or 99 Contenders.

Its a nice set. Wouldn't even call it the best looking revolution set, let alone best Pacific set.

It doesn't really. The parallels all look better than the base, the gold clashes IMO. I prefer the 98 and 99 Revolution to it, but best of the lot is 2000 Revolution.

I don't think any of those would be close to best base card though.

As far as a base card set, and I love Pacific, some concerns with edging but not like Quantum Leaf in roughly the same era. The colored parallels by Pacific were some of the best but there were better parallels in the same era, finest die cut refractors, etc. For a base set, it’s definitely in the running, one negative is that Pacific products would block.

One of my all time favorite pics of a card was Pacific, Charles Woodson RC “doing a Superman leap of a one handed interception on the sidelines”, I do miss the pics because of the added background image.

My 2 favorite products of that era
1. Donrus Elite
2. Pacific

I don’t think it’s the best but I do like it, the revolution sets were always a favorite. Personally I think Pacific and Playoff had the best designs in the 90’s. They should both get much more love.

Did Panini ever make true foil base cards like Pacific and Upper Deck did?

Agreed. Maybe not the best looking ever, but definitely in the top 5. And the rainbow was phenomenal. Here are samples of the 4 parallels--Bronze, Platinum Blue, Red, and Silver.

the most iconic card from the 97' set was the Jon Kitna rookie.

i still remember Beckett doing a story on it since he only had two rookies in total, and that was the season that Seattle made the playoffs.

Beautiful set, but not my absolute favorite.. That goes to 1998 Gold Label. Another would be 1995 Flair

These are great looking cards. Was into hockey at the time so never bought bit very sharp for late 90s if a bit aged.

I prefer Invincible or Crown Royale over Revolution. Though I do remember opening a few Revolution from the K-Mart discounted blister packs searching for the Kitna and Matthew Hatchette RCs. Never pulled anything big out of the packs, but the Ring Bearer die/laser cuts are absolutely insane. The little areas around the gems are all cut out, and by using a top loader, I accidentally crease my Favre. I should probably transfer the rest of mine to screwdowns.

I do like 1997 revolution alot. The cards are condition sensitive however. I wish I had more of the set.

There's a reason why the machines kept the Matrix set in the late 1990s.

It was truly the high point of human civilization.

As one social media commenter recently said: "The late 1990s feel more futuristic than the 2020s."
