Default What do think of eBay sellers who try to hide the fact a card is a sticker auto?

This is obviously a UFC card but I’ve noticed this trend amongst sellers across all sports. This card is in fact a sticker auto but notice how the sellers have expertly touched it up to make it look like an on card auto. So what do you say? Shame on the seller for being deceitful or shame on the buyers for not being more educated when making a purchase?

I didn’t buy this card by the way, was just checking Sean Strickland’s prices since he has a title defense this coming weekend.

You can see the sticker.

Sometimes my pics are bad and I try to fix them up and it makes the sticker harder to see, but I always select label or sticker in the details and not hard signed

I disagree. If I didn’t already know this card was a sticker auto I wouldn’t have known. This listing however is a much clearer representation of what the card actually is:

Yeah, no. Sorry but there's absolutely no way Burbank would intentionally try to hide that it's a sticker auto. They don't scan cards the way you and I do. They have a machine that scans dozens of cards per minute and sometimes the scanner doesn't pick up the edges of the sticker.

Sounds like a quality control issue. They should probably fix that.

Not a sticker auto issue, but on the topic of misleading listings- the stock photos they use for cards can cause issues. For example, Topps Finest cards shown with protective peels in the picture on the listing (stock photo), then you get the card and it has no peel....that technically should be INAD.

This is 100% correct -- Burbank's commercial scanner is super bright compared to an iPhone photo. They didn't alter the photo.

I agree that listing was difficult to see the sticker but definitely not intentional.

If the card isn’t listed as “Signed on the Card”, then look at the listing as a sticker.

This.

OP going to really have an issue if they look at Probstein/Pwcc scans especially on vintage.

Not shady at all, they just scanned the card and that's how it came out. They didn't put "on-card auto" or anything like that in the title or in the item specifics. If it matters that much to you then you should do the research before buying, to make sure that card type/numbering is actually on-card - it's a Chronicles /99 so it would be highly surprising if it was not a sticker.

A) Know what you're buying before you buy it

B) Burbank is legit, I'm sure they just scanned it and that's how it looked

C) Know what you're buying before you buy it

Even on my crappy HP scanner if I hit the auto-correct button the sticker won't show as well. Enough contrast and brightness will blur it out. Not intentional, but I never thought twice about it until this thread.

Look at other pics of the same card and see if it’s a sticker.

I disagree. My scans come out pretty similar and I do not touch them up one bit. Its a 20 dollar card I highly doubt they are trying to get one over on you.

The buyer should know whether or not the card they are interested in is on-card or sticker.

Unless the seller mispresents the nature of the auto in the text of the listing, it's up to the buyer to know what they're buying.

It's not that hard to see the sticker on the card when you use the eBay magnification tool....but I do think they could have mentioned it in the item specifics.

This.

But to have to even remind people of this means something is very wrong in the marketplace.
