Default Who is the best player that nobody collects?

I saw this thread in the baseball forum and I thought it would be interesting to see who some guys would be on the basketball side of things.

Refer to sig.

Long regarded as the jurassic precursor to Lord Bishop Kneesmiff by kardboard insiders.

Anthony davis is good one. I have some rookies of his and they barely move even when he plays great or won the championship.

Kevin Durant is one too. He sells of course but if you’re talking low end cards, it’s shocking the cards that sell in the $5-$20 range for him. Same cards of Curry/Lebron may sell for $50-$100 range.

KD makes total sense.

He doesn’t have a strong or collectible legacy.

Steph defined an entire era and LeBron is LeBron.

The obvious answer is Jokic. He is clearly the best player in the NBA right now, but he isn't flashy or brash. Unfortunately young fans seem to like flashy and a big mouth. Jokic is probably the most efficient player and loves to disappear from the media as soon as possible.

There are a ton of players from the 1990s that were overshadowed by Jordan. Some all time greats that get little love, however the answer to your question is TIM DUNCAN by far

Could you please point out some examples of that, looking to stack up some cheap KD cards

Elgin Baylor, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Moses Malone. Take your pick.

While it's almost impossible for there to be a star that no one collects, there are stars that very few people collect, but TD isn't one of them. He has a healthy collector base, although they don't have the kind of budget to push his prices to the extreme.

Not the "best" player but John Stockton.

I'd agree you can't say KD or Duncan. By that metric people only "collect" rookies, MJ, Kobe, Lebron, Steph, Luka, and Giannis.

Both of those have a lot of hobby relevance compared to most other guys who played in their eras.

I bet more people collect KD or Duncan than aforementioned AD or Embiid.

I'll second Moses Malone.

3x MVP. 1x Finals MVP. A top 20 all time player that nobody really collects.

in terms of ratio of award shares to hobby interest, he's gotta be the far and away "leader"

I have a 89 hoops yellow border card of him that unfortunately came with the 100 card boxed set, should I toss/burn it?

Moses Malone probably the winner.

Joel Embiid gonna be this generation's Moses as well.

Moses was a constantly-injured playoff choker with no Finals MVPS with a terrible attitude ("give me the MVP, whaaaa!") who threw his teammates under the bus?

Surveying the collecting landscape at start of pandemic, I was surprised to find the big stars as I knew them (as a Warriors fan) hardly collected, such as Mullen, Tim Hardaway, and Kidd (Cal Berkeley), in favor of Anfernee Hardaway and TMac. But then maybe that's always the case when the teams you root for suck. I am sure Indiana players wish their Alex English cards went for more.

So many examples. I’ll mention the latest 1 - just a few days ago I saw a Durant Select Die Cut green #ed to 65 or 85 I think from 2016 for $12 at a card show. Warriors jersey so thought it was good deal. Looked it up and that’s about what it’s worth. Dude has select numbered parallels that routinely sell for as little as $4 - $15 range, even from his Warriors playing days. As I noted cards of LeBron sell for at least 3x that if not way more. I understand why it is kind of, he’s just not too collectible but it is still interesting. And difference in pricing is still very wide.

One example - see screenshots
