Default The Houston Astros Official 2024 Season Thread

Eeeesh...

It's deja vu all over again.

Going back to the 2023 ALCS, that's 8 straight losses at home.

Don't be sad. The Astros are in the AL West. They will be fine.

You can even take it further than that. I think I heard in their last 33 home games they were 7-26. Pretty impressive that they could play that bad at home and still go to the 7th game of the AL championship last year.

Their road record is tremendous.

It reminds me of something that grade school coaches often deal with - wondering why their kid players play so much better when their parents aren't at the game.

It's inexplicable and psychological.

It’s appalling, and abhorrent for those who spend money to attend games; especially for the prices Jim Crane is charging. Yet he’s afraid to give Montgomery a 1 year deal or Snell a 2 year with an opt out, luxury tax should mean nothing when you’re consistently selling merch and filing the seats.

The biggest issue is the absolute garbage they’re running out for middle relief, paired with the hopes that all starters will come back healthy and perform. I’m really hoping they move mccullers to long/middle relief if a when he comes back. Mushinski, Scott, Montero, and Bielak are mop up guys at best.

It’s only 4 games, but man, that was atrocious. Pinch hitting Singleton over Dubon was absurd and then sitting Abreu for Singleton due to a wrist issue and then pinch hitting Abreu for him to only strikeout per usual.

Speaking of head cases, I believe Framber is done. I collect his stuff and have been a huge supporter, but he’s mentally fried. He’s the real life version of Rube
Baker; someone get that man a titty mag and let’s hope he can throw a strike.

Green manager and middle relief pitchers were not replaced with competent players. This is on the GM this year. It’s still early and this team always starts slow. Tough schedule too.

Did Astros change pitching coach?!?!?!?!? The first 2 games, I don't know why the Stros manager put those relief pitchers into the first 2 games. When the score was tight, you got to go to the best it doesn't matter there are 2-3 more games left in the series with the same team. You put more pressure if you lose the first 2 games at home, then 3 snowballs to 4. Framber with 6 walks in the first game is just unacceptable, he needs a change of scenery. Trade Pressley also, I don't think he wants to play 2nd fiddle to Hader.

It's because they're utilizing an advanced cheating method at home...wait...never mind.

Ronel Blanco pitching well.

I think the Astros are going to win this one.

Amazing outing. Only faced 28 batters.

Crazy that he's never been past the 6th inning

Not an Astros fan, but it's always cool to see a complete game no-no. Congrats!

30 years old and making his 8th career start.

Killing it with the changeup - a pitch he threw 8% of the time last year.

Kudos to Yanier Diaz for recognizing his command of it and staying with the pitch throughout the game.

Yainer also hit 2 homers to stay hot at the plate. I wonder if any catcher has caught a no-no before and hit two homers in the same game?

It is not a fluke game, he dominated in his last game against the Sugarland Skeeters. He had a lot of Ks in his last outings. What a blessing for the Stros, imagine if they signed Snell.
