I prefer to buy them raw and grade them if I want to.

Definitely depends on the card, but mostly raw. I like to touch the card, feel it. Bigger cards I'll always want slabbed though.

Both but slight nod to graded, as long as it matches what I see

Graded as I'll be dead soon and they will be easier to move

i voted graded but most cards do not need to be graded. The key cards yes.unless your into trying to complete a graded set.though i cant imagine the money, time, effort it would take to complete a 660 card (or more) baseball set graded.

3 years ago i sent SGC all the key cards in the 87 fleer basketball set to grade. Then got the stupid idea to do the whole set in SGC 8 or above.3 years later im still not done. But i enjoy the process of it.

Graded only here.

I just feel safer. Disclaimer is I only really buy high-end vintage and don't believe in the term "personal collection".

Raw if I can see them in person. If I'm buying on eBay I only buy graded.

Do you think one day the hobby will pivot away from graded cards and go back to just collecting raw cards? (in top loaders/card savers)

Voted graded but DEPENDS!!
As for T206 or other pre-war, I like graded for the Hofers and higher priced items.
For commons, doesnt need to be graded. This may also follow into the modern stuff too.

Been going after raw Aaron's when I have a chance. I might grade some of these in the future, but for now I am happy with their home. Just put approximate grades on them so if I ever grade, I know which one's might be worth it. Pay $15 to grade a card or $2.50 to slab it myself and I can reuse the Zion magpros. If I die, told my wife and kids to send all my raw cards to Greg Morris.

I like graded for resell value but I also love the smell of raw topps cards! I like holding raw cards vs holding plastic!

Raw.....better visual appeal, and easier to display.

Oops, I clicked on graded.
I actually prefer UNGRADED. Just have to make sure the dealer is reputable and not out to scam ones. As I purchased an ungraded 1979-80 OPC set with a RAW Gretzky rc from at the sports card Expo inToronto
He had TONS of vintage which I’d go back & purchase from.

I think most vintage dealers are reputable. The biggest issues I see are when people see vintage Mantle/Ruth/etc... cards at an insane price from an online seller where they are selling fake cards. People think they are getting steals, when in reality they just got scammed.

Even high price vintage is pretty safe on eBay if you go through the eBay authentication program and don't have a PO Box. I have a raw 1955 Aaron going through that process right now that I got for $260. I trust the seller though and would have waived that requirement if it was an option. However, it also protects the seller, so it is worth the wait.

The vast majority of sellers are great for vintage, but you do need to be careful these days. I tend to avoid sellers that deal mainly with ultra-modern graded because of the acceptance of card "restoration."

Check their feedback. Look for red flags. I was watching a 1954 Topps Willie Mays that looked great for the price but I got scared away because the guy slipped in a rival fence busters to avoid the authentication process. Those Etsy reprints scare me.

Any seller trying to avoid the authentication process should be ignored. It is the safest way for a seller to send a card. With expensive cards I have had a couple close calls of people trying to rip me off as a seller. You send it to the authenticator and you are covered. The only people I have heard complain about it are buyers that just want their cards faster that are experts. This is a great service!

I agree. The Authentication process is a net positive for me. The added security helps deter scammers I’m sure

Cards look real but seller has 2 negative comments, didn't pass ebay auth, or grade lower than expected with undisclosed flaws. EZ skip.

As a seller, I want to use ebay auth to prevent unjustified returns.

Anyone avoiding it via 2-card lots is suspicious to me as well.
