Default MLB becoming like NASCAR

How much longer before they just put sponsor patches all over their uniform.

Nothing will be worse than ferrari signing with hp and having their drivers wear blue race suits.

And here I thought the Nike Swoosh ruined the traditional Yankees jersey. MLB is ridiculous!

To a certain extent, this feels like a giant house of cards. Whenever we have a big downturn in the economy won't all this advertising revenue dry up? Some of it makes no sense to begin with. Nobody watching a Yankees game is going to call up Starr Insurance as I don't think they even sell individual policies.

I’m not a fan of the advertising changes, but the people up in arms claiming it’s unwatchable due to advertising is hilarious to me. I imagine they also boycott their kid’s little league games because the Franklin Funeral Home Marlins use a dugout sponsored by the Lions Club.

Companies advertise for many reasons. The one people most think about is brand recognition. Another is to gain access to things that you may not be able to access if you aren't an advertiser. That access can help you maintain or get new clients. Another is that it's an easy way to write off something the owner/employees may be doing anyways.

Sadly this toothpaste isn't going back in the tube. Even in a downturn the patches won't go away. The cost may go down but they will still sell them. Sports owners for the most part are greedy. They don't care about tradition or what fans think as long as the cost benefit is there.

The more concerning part is my fear that they are letting money drive the sporting results. It's why I am all for robot umps and whatever non bias technology intervention we can get to insure the true result.

renaming ballparks to corporate bidders pissed me off. jerseys is the inevitable.

in Toronto, for example, most still call it The Skydome. i'll die calling it this way, too.

Candlestick
Kingdome
Olympic (Montreal)
Shea
Astrodome

the list goes on...great ballpark names now fall into whatever the highest bidder is to "own" the name for whatever the agreed upon lease is.

Maple Leaf Gardens moved to the Air Canada Centre (ACC or the Hanger) now whatever is...Rogers? blech. i still call it the ACC lol

i'm not going to stop watching games but i'll be damned if i ever own a jersey with a dozen patches of corporate logos.

Starr is trying to reposition itself in its industry. I can say for a fact the perks of sponsorship including having Yankees legends visit guests in the box they get provides a lot value to them.

They are looking to be viewed like other big boy insurers and this is a very public way to do that.

The helmet ads are just overkill...a small logo on the shoulder is not that much of a deal, but the size of helmet ads are ridiculous

I hate this too

Unless Rogers Communications starts paying me money to use their name I’ll continue to call it the Skydome

I'm more annoyed by the digital ads they place over the in-stadium ads behind home plate. Because it gets a little wonky when the pitcher's arm/body passes through it.

An ad on the shoulder or helmet doesn't change my viewing experience in any way. Hell, let them go the way of the soccer world and replace the team name with a sponsor.

Ad's have always been part of pro sports............now if we could just get politics out of pro sports that would be great.

We gotta get Blake Snell to $16,000 for every single pitch he throws, somehow.
