Default Massive Vintage Gold Mine lot find

Good evening everyone. Let me start by saying i've been a long time member of blowout cards and am gaining nothing making these claims. We have all read about found lots that have 10s to 100s of thousands of dollars in sports cards found in an attic or storage locker. I think I may have stumbled upon one of these lots. I had a family friend reach out about a sports card lot he bought recently. He doesn't know anything about baseball cards, but gave me a quick rundown of how he acquired it. Supposedly a card shop owner passed away in 1994. No heirs, so his brother cleaned out the shop and put it in storage. Recently the brother decided to get rid of everything he had in storage and sold it to my friend. I haven't had a chance to go through it, but got a single pic sent of a couple vintage cards. He wa so excited while I was talking to him he dropped his phone and broke it. That is why I don't have any more photos. I will be meeting with him tomorrow to go through the lot, but a quick rundown of what he found and relayed to me over the phone.

13 each 1971 Topps Nolan Ryan
1953 Topps Baseball Unopened Wax Pack
1967 Topps Baseball Unopened Wax Pack
Multiple unopened Baseball Wax Packs from the mid 70s
1977 Topps Baseball Unopened Wax Box
1982 and 1983 Donruss Baseball Unopened Wax Boxes
1968 Topps Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman Rookie
6 each 1969 Topps Nolan Ryan
1955 Topps Sandy Koufax
Multiple completed Topps Baseball card sets from the late 50's, 60s, 70s, and early 80s
Lots of early 90s Nolan Ryan and Ken Griffey Jr. Supposedly 200 each of the 1990 Topps Ken Griffey Jr.
Lots of early 90s junk wax
Signed Nolan Ryan baseball with Authentication
1986 Fleer Michael Jordan Rookie
Multiple 50s and 60s Mickey Mantles, Willie Mays, and Ted Williams

and the biggest items in the lot....2 each 1952 Topps Baseball Mickey Mantle Rookie Cards. I haven't had eyes on them yet, but am hopeful it is real.

It sounds too good to be true. I will have eyes on this massive lot tomorrow so will post additional photos soon.

That 1953 Topps wax pack is no slouch. Probably worth 50-100K, depending on condition. It could be the most valuable thing in the lot, depending on how those 52T Mantles look.

Dang it sounds like a fun time, even if the Mantles turn out to be a reprint or something. I am jealous for sure

You won’t believe it, but there were a couple Gretzkys in the lot. I have no idea on year or make, just that he has a handful of them.

Dibs on the '90 Griffeys!

OP, that's an INSANE lot. Hope it's everything you imagine and more.

And shame on that guy's brother for locking everything in storage for 30 years and never, not once, thinking "Hmmm, maybe my brother's collection is worth something. Let me spend an afternoon or weekend figuring it out."

How much for a team spot in a 1953 topps pack group break?

It's certainly no 1990 Fleer Juan Uribe but I understand.

If this is all legit, I hope your friend goes back and gives the brother a little kick back if he sold it to him cheap.

If this turns out to be what OP thinks it is, the brother deserves nothing other than a kick in the butt from a different relative. He had 30 years to think to himself "hey, maybe my brother's entire card's shop worth of stuff has something valuable - I think I'll get it appraised or go through it". It instead sits in storage (which itself, isn't cheap) for 30 years and is sold, ostensibly, for pennies on the dollar.

Its less than pennies on a dollar. My friend made sure to get receipts for the lot to avoid accusations. The only card the seller wanted a significant amount of money for was the 86 Fleer Jordan. My buddy had to dish out $800 for it. Lets say he got everything else for a very, very, very good price. My friend knows nothing about sports cards, so it was a blind gamble on his part. I was his first call when he bought them. I'm really looking forward to going through this lot tonight.

My best baseball find from around 200 storage units was a signed Mantle ball. Good memories. This is crazy. Have fun.
