I would like to thank BO for putting those NPB cases on clearance a couple days ago.

The feeding frenzy is on. If you've been sitting on a stash I'd think about moving it now.

Very excited to see him in the MLB. Less excited for him to go to the Dodgers

I'll be honest and admit that I do not follow international player movements or the process, so this will be an ignorant question: Does he just get to decide where he plays?

Don’t count the Padres out.
Darvish & Sasaki v Ohtani & Yamamoto |

I can't see a world where he goes anywhere but the Dodgers. Not with Ohtani's star looming as large as ever right now. 50/50 season, World Series win.
Yamamoto already there helps too. I don't think a veteran like Darvish is going to move the needle for a 23-year-old like Ohtani will. And with the Dodgers already showing they are willing to manipulate the contract payouts (i.e. Ohtani's ridiculous deferrments) they won't have a money issue at all.

Can't go to LA, Ohtani already wears jersey #17.
There I solved that problem. |

Sasaki will start out making league minimum, and the up front money he'll get will be limited to international bonus pool money since he's too young to be a pure international free agent, so even after factoring in his NBP's team posting fees, he'll cost whatever team signs him less than $10 million, with the majority of that being the use it or lose it bonus pool allotment. Money isn't (shouldn't...) be an issue for any team interested in signing him. If he had waited until 2026, then he'd be a pure international free agent and be able to sign a market-base contract like Yamamoto did
With that said, the Dodgers are the clear favorite landing spot. I can't be too mad about it, they just do so many things incredibly well in terms of player development and simply the amenities and how they take care of their players off the field. Their model is something that every single team in the league should be envious of and trying to mimic. It obviously helps when you can throw $300M at your payroll, but that's not a factor here with Sasaki contract will come from international bonus pool money since he's too young to be a pure international free agent Quote:

Read something the other day about how guess who.... the Dodgers! ... happen to have the largest amount of international bonus money available in this signing period. Which means, among all other advantages in terms of teammates, competitiveness on the field, climate, etc., they can also offer him the most money. It would be an incredible upset if any team other than the Dodgers signed him. Rich getting richer.
