Default Might be stupid but I invested in a G league team

Been a bball fan for most of my life and since I couldn't be a player next best thing was to work behind the scenes. After coming into money and savings I invested in my local team. I get some of the revenue, 2 courtside tickets to every game, suite access to every home game, practice and locker room access, suite tickets for 10 home games for their nba team. I'll probably break even after 8 years but hey how many people can say they own a team.

Based on who is posting I assume this is a troll thread.

That aside, as far as I know all the g league teams are owned by an NBA team besides the one in Mexico. And I find it unlikely that some random person would be able to just take money and “invest” in the g league affiliate without investing in the NBA team itself.

I am also fairly certain that all g league team revenue gets shared with the NBA affiliate so to think they would like cut people a revenue sharing check seems also pretty unlikely.

Not to mention an 8 year break even? That seems incredibly unrealistic.

It’s certainly possible but I really doubt any of this is true

Not unrealistic or weird at all; I owned part of the Syracuse Skychiefs until recently when they voted to sell to the Mets (I wanted to keep my shares, but didn't have enough where my vote mattered)

Different with minor league MLB franchises, no? Aren’t they mostly independently owned?

The NBA teams own their g league affiliates (Magic specifically since OP claims he’s in Florida, have owned their affiliate since purchasing it in 2017)

I would be highly skeptical that you could invest in the g league team without ownership in the NBA franchise

I think the ownership structure of Some G-League Teams are pretty close to that of MiLB (Its not consistent throughout the League). Looking at the FAQ; it looks like some are owned by teams, and others by individuals (#27 on list), with most but not all being owned by the NBA team (so I guess a small number are like MiLB, probably one of which OP put money into)

Sounds like you got a Superfan Season Pass or something and Btw, its the G-League, there won't be any revenues just losses. Have fun tho...

I was just using the Osceola Magic as a reference because OP said he was in Florida. Fully owned by the Magic as of 2017.

Like I said, it’s certainly possible but I’m gonna go with highly unlikely

Even if this is a troll, I think the Packers do it right, fans invest into the team which helps them and fans get a pretty cool talking point if that's their team that they "own" a piece.

The Packers “ownership” is the biggest scam in the history of professional sports. Everyone knows this

I don't know how all the teams work, but I know someone who has a stake in the RGV Vipers (Rockets affiliate)... so that part checks out to me

So what you’re saying is they won’t listen to my advice when I advise them the TE from my Alma Mater would be a steal in the 5th Round?
