Default Federal Employee Buyout

Would you take the offer if you were eligible? Resign now, get paid until September?

I want to say yes but I think I would be bored to tears if I didn't go to work everyday.

Question, is it a before or after taxes payout?

Whatever, just get your arses back to work. I can't believe this is a thing. They're lucky to get any offer.
The pandemic shut down was a long time ago and President Ding-Dong is gone.
Go, to, work!

No doubt they would tax the money much like a bonus or commission which means nearly half would go back in taxes.

This probably correct if paid out as a lump sum.

Probably.

I can’t imagine the federal government is going to become a less toxic environment after this move.

8 months salary? Sure, I’ll take two months to travel and then start working through my network for positions.

I’m guessing most people won’t because they are too afraid of being out of work.

The actual good employees will take it and get new jobs. The middling and poor performing ones will stay because they know they can't do any better. Super smart idea.

I disagree. People that have years in service are not going to throw away a pension. Doesn't matter if they are great or poor performers.

If they really want to clean up the Government. First thing is to go after the Managers. There are too many and they clog the pipelines of getting work done. Working in IT, they hold back production. Need one manager per project, not 10.

Target the high GS manager positions and production will improve in the IT field within Government. These are the people sitting at home in Teams meetings all day.

Most that take it can continue to WFH until Sept. They will just turn their computer on in the morning and off in the evening.

I just hope that anybody who accepts a buyout actually receives their full payout, rather than having to fight in court for it at a later date.

It’s not really a buyout, they still have to work. With job cuts coming for the federal government, this is a way for those that know or think they are on the block to have a job through Sept. They can also WFH until then if that’s what they do now. I think once the signup period is over, people will be getting fired and wish they had taken the offer.

No. He stiffs many he hires. What makes you think he will pay a buyout?

Take the buy-out, phone in your performance, and look for a new job during the eight months.

I have a lot of questions on whether the unions will fight this or if courts may find pieces and parts of it illegal. If my pension was secured, I'd be gone. If it wasn't, would probably hold on for dear life until it was.

Feel for those employees, seems like they are being used as pawns in a bigger fight.

This shows a great example of adverse selection. When you think your offer will scare off the chaff and retain the wheat...

If I was near retirement age and had my required years of service met I would totally take it. Hell I would take this offer at my job now and I’m 30 years from retirement.

Federal employees gonna learn and regret real quick when they find out how competitive the private market is for their qualifications.

It’s easy to say “just find a job in 8 mos” yea good luck unless you’ve got an actual in demand skill

I think people have this idea that there are just millions of fully remote positions waiting to be filled when that couldn't be farther from the truth.

There are less and less remote jobs available and the ones that are, are extremely competitive. If you spent your entire career in the public sector, you're probably not gonna make that cut.

People will realize what big mistake they have made when they actually have to go get a job and it's not just looking out as an observer
