Default Bought someone's hockey

I'm not sure if it was a good idea since I have no idea about hockey. Stuff seems like it's 2005 and under. Is the junk wax Era of hockey the same as the other sports? Will update with pics as I go through them.

It's just like most sports...after everyone retires only the low #d rare stuff holds value or the absolute best players rookies but only in certain sets(Young Guns from 1999-current). There are some late 90s rare inserts that are very collectible but they usually look so good they stand out from the pack. The stuff in your pic so far is standard 90s and not worth much.

Weird thing is, it says you are in Fresno. I had a collection like this in Bakersfield CA. Hockey died to me in 05 when the lockout happened so that would have been when my collection stopped aswell. When we moved in 2014 I could only take with me what I could fit in a car. So I left the whole collection behind (minus a handful of the best cards) along with tons of other stuff in an apartment that went to whoever came into clean it. Maybe these were mine lol. Hopefully you find something nice in there.

I see the back of a 1996-97 Be A Player Link to History card in the front middle of those top loaders. Those BAP packs had one auto per pack, so this person may have been opening those. Maybe there will be some autos in there from the BAP releases. There may be some serial-numbered in there from the late-90s from other sets, but just what's visible looks like basic inserts not worth much.

I think you guys are right. Lots of inserts. There are some #cards but I'm not sure about the player. I see Eric lindros and a carey price victory RC. There's some be a player autos but I have no clue. I'm about 3/4 done. Still a lot of fun to go through. So many great looking cards. My favorite is the upper deck one. Probably not worth anything but cool card. Looks like this guy was a fan of sakic.

Concur.

It's a superstar system. When all is said and done, they're worth 100x or 1000x what the ok and good players are (basically nada).

Everyone speculates while players are active as young/prospect dudes.
...but only the GOAT type and some MVP-level players really matter in the long haul.

It's always fun to go through old stuff regardless.

take your time and look through the BAP autos carefully, there are some short prints in most of the sets

I hope you didn't pay too much for the collection but as others stated only the inserts would have much value.

I supposed a Jagr OPC Premiere in a 10 would have value but that would be similar to having a rare short mint coin in a collection of common coins.

I paid under $200 so isn't that bad. I enjoyed going through them. Lots of cool stuff and brings back memories of collecting in the 90s. This is perfect for comc or dollar bins at shows. Lowest # card I found was /200. Theres a bunch of gretzky, lemieux, etc base. Overall, happy with purchase.

The fun times. When a card numbered to 5000 or 2500 was considered limited.

Or 45,000, to which they could have printed 100,000 and who'd know the difference

I see a Jim Carey in there, if I pulled that limited edition card in 96 I'd probably think it would be worth about 10k 30 years later
