Two years, $54M deal with a $10M signing bonus. Per Jon Heyman.

I kind of thought he was going to end up on the Orioles somehow.

Seems cheap for a premier power hitter.
Looks like the only guys that get paid these days are the superstars.

This is great news. Glad he’s staying for at least a little longer.

This is great news! Now they need to offer Iglesias a 2 year deal and the roster would be complete.

So is it more like 30 the first year 24 the second? Sounds like he gets what he wanted for one year and can opt out again for a longer deal if he has a big year.

Only $104 million less then the 7 year $158 million he turned down in 2023. Sometimes greed is not good.

Curious to know what the Mets are going to do with Baty and Mauricio now that they have Alonso and Vientos at the corners?

Scott Boras is not always good for his clients.

Total dollars sure, but he's getting 30M this year vs avg of 22 per and that deal would have bought out last year as well? So if he plays out the contract he's at 74 for 3 2024-2026. As long as he doesn't fall off a cliff (possible) he can come close to making the same or more by signing short term deals.

Is he going to make $104 million more during the rest of his career? If he can't get it now he probably won't get that in short term deals as he ages and gets worst at the plate.

You're missing year 1 of the deal would have been last year so he's at like 52 vs 44 right now.

To be clear, he very well may end up making less in total and signing the extension would have been far less stressful.

Right. At his age, it'd be really hard to change the paradigm enough that teams don't view him as someone constantly 1-2 years from falling off a cliff. He might end up doing really well for himself on a series of short term contracts (assuming a resurgence, which might not be reasonable), but he's not likely to get the stability of a long-term deal.

I just hope he doesn’t carry any animosity towards the team and purposely stink it up for two years, some players are like that. But glad he’s back, and hope he does better or at least doesn’t regress.

He's looking to make more money after this year so no he's not going to purposefully stink. That said I don't think he's going to be hanging out with the GM much.

Its funny, but there's a good chance that happens. Braves pitching might be a bit worse losing Fried and Phillies lost some bullpen pieces. Probably comes down to whoever is healthiest. I also wouldn't look past the Nats. Lots of young guys and if they take a step forward they could surprise. Marlins will be putrid.
