Default Why is this card OC?

Why is the first card considered Off Center and the 2nd one is not?

A couple of reasons or none at all.

1) Left to right centering is more obvious and distracting to the naked eye (how most card are graded) than top to bottom centering.
2) They were graded at different times by different graders who both made a judgment call.

Since both are 9s and are over 60/40 off-centered in one direction, they should both have been graded as 9(OC) at the time or straight 8s if the off-centeredness is less than 65/35.

Thanks for your response. That still doesn't make sense. This card here is not the opc version and graded a little later and looks a little more off center left to right.

Important point to learn: PSA IS WILDLY INCONSISTENT IN THEIR GRADING. Trying to make sense of it will drive you insane.

For example, there have been PSA 7s with pinholes that weren't detected by PSA. They would have gotten 1 or 2s if they had been spotted.

There was a PSA 2 that was cracked out and then graded a PSA 7 later.

There are PSA 6s that were cracked out and later got 10s.

Do not expect anything but more questions if you're trying to understand PSA grading.

You can't really tell online.

But beyond that there's a crapton of inconsistencies.

Make your peace with it and buy what makes you happy.

If you're buying to flip, and/or crack/resubmit, you'll drive yourself positively mad.

Possibly the back is way off center, you have a pic of the back?

This is the correct answer.

thats why id imagine the second card, which is notoriously off center to begin with given the set, is still better than the first.

At this point all one can hope for is that they didn’t fold it to fit in a’48 Bowman holder because it was what was nearest to them.
