Default Fleer Brilliants Superman?

I usually come here for my info on sets like this, saw a Mega today gonna watch some breaks but didn’t see anything searching on here.

Anyone know the word on this? Is it only retail? I’ve just seen Megas and different blaster variations and LCS wasn’t sure if there was hobby.

Set looks ok surprised there isn’t a post unless I missed it

Not exclusive. Hobby stores had a chance to order from distribution. I got 2 cases as an LCS.

I would assume it will come to epack eventually with epack exclusive parallels as well.

Retail blasters always show up at my local Target stores a couple months after release if not longer. They're just now getting Looney Tunes blasters. The local Wal-Mart stores have mostly stopped carrying trading cards. That used to be my go-to spot for nonsports blasters like GPK pre-covid. Meijer gets some in but they mark everything up above retail these days.

I happened to be in the shop when they broke out a case of Megas, I grabbed 6. Pretty standard sans autos and sketches. Did not hit anything lower than #/499 but hit a SP insert in each box. Working on PYOC listing on eBay/singles.

Base card

Mega Purple (1/pack)

Red Heat Vision /1938

Blue X-Ray /999

Green Kryptonite /499

Illuminators

Powered by the Sun

World of Metropolis

World of Metropolis Pulsar

World of Metropolis Kryptonian Red

It’s nice to see new DC stuff hit retail. I just am not too excited by this set. Looks kind of like another iteration of Annual. Are any of the inserts original art?

Yea I don’t think I see OA in this…looks like UD is taking some time building up to its first DC OA set…probably needs time for artist(s) to work on it then for manufacturing. I guess whenever the first Fleer Ultra or Masterpieces set hits we’ll have one.

One upside to this set is the price point…used to hobby boxes in marvel costing $150-300 or who knows what Chrome is going for, like $500. Nice to have affordable comic cards even ones like Annual.

This doesn't seem any different from your average UD set except there is no hobby. Feels exactly like a Marvel Annual release except no 100 dollar hobby boxes. If you're simply saying its nice because its not 500 dollars like Chrome Hobby I agree, but based on the fact that there are 4-5 figure singles coming out of Chrome I think prices seem to be inline with the market.

Looking over the checklist for Superman the biggest card is going to be what..1-2k? In that case it would be product suicide for them to try to sell these boxes any higher than they are going for now.

Any card that says Superman stands for "Truth, Justice, and the American way", I will buy.

Finally finished opening my mega (and the MM blaster I got with it). These are the results. Had a lot of fun opening even if the numbered cards were all very high, was hoping for at least a Superman purple as they are one per pack and un-numbered but exclusive to Megas so was happy with that. Thought all my numbered was gonna be bad guys so happy Krypto came through as the last one and lowest of the high numbers (/499) and was also an exclusive parallel.

Just noticed my World Of Metropolis is a pulsar while writing this so goes from (1:80) to (1:107) which is cool I was just happy to get a rare ratio. Haven’t seen a checklist but may need to put together the Classic Covers set, get a good amount per mega and they are just really cool and I’m not much of a set collector. Ripping made me realize I’m out of the Superman loop….let me preface this isn’t negative but seeing Jay Nakamura and the card saying he’s Jon Kent’s boyfriend I’m like who are these people? Lol but I think this is a really fun set that did really well insert wise and is gonna be fun especially if you’re a Superman fanatic as I did and didn’t even know all the characters. If you’re looking to make money odds are against you but when aren’t they? Great if you just like this and want singles especially non-numbered such as Classic Covers, can probably even put together the exclusive color sets (GameStop/Target/Walmart?/Mega) for cheap.

Jay Nakamura was introduced in 2021, which was a very... politically divisive era of writing in American comics, but I would agree that there's not a really deep bench of "Superman side characters". The stuff coming out now is better-recieved.

Here's a couple checklists in different formats: Upper Deck, TCDB (work in progress), Checklist Insider

I'm just glad Upper Deck released a non-sport product that isn't completely nerfed at retail.

The Upper Deck booth still had $50 boxes of them at Comic-Con on the final day, Sunday (the only day I attended), so they hadn't sold out by that point, at least. They also had $30 blasters of the DC Annual. I skipped those, but bought a pack of the Peacemaker exclusive set and the two packs that make up the DC Retro set.

Saw quite a few of these boxes at GameStop. I guess not much buzz for this set?

Upper Deck needs to start pushing out some Batman product, asap! Also with little delay to epack.

I agree. Batman and the rest of the bat family and villains are going to be the biggest draws UD has with the DC license. They did lead with the short Batman weekly set but I’m surprised the first hobby set wasn’t focused on Batman. UD is letting Topps steal all the collector attention with their Marvel drops.
