Default The Honey Badger retires after 12 years in the NFL

Def a big surprise.

He was one of the better safeties of the game.

Man, time just keeps flying right by. Certainly doesn't feel like he's been in the league for 12 years already.

Yeah makes me feel old. Cause I'm old.

I didn't realize he was on the all decade team. Vast majority of the guys (not counting special teams) make the HOF. He is listed as "DB" when there are 3 CBs and 3 Ss. The other DB is Chris Harris Jr. I don't see either of them making the HOF. For reference CBs are (Peterson, Revis, Sherman) - all likely - and 3 Ss are Eric Berry, Weddle, Earl Thomas - I can see Weddle and Thomas. I love Berry, but he didn't really play enough for me. He had an 8 year career, 3 of those he didn't play and another only 6 games. 5 full seasons, but all of those were pro bowl level. He will be an interesting case.

Tom Brady chasing after the honey badger and getting in his face during the Super Bowl was so great. And then Tom calling Mathieu to apologize, only after the Bucs were hoisting the Lombardi trophy is the most Tom Brady thing ever.

Yeah. I think he's going to be a strong Hall of Very Good guy, but the all 2010's team will at least give him a case. 3 1st Team all pros is pretty strong too.

-Mathieu's grievances in that SB were legitimate. It's been memory holed because it ultimately didn't matter with the O-line fiasco but Brady got carried into the end zone by multiple perfectly-timed bad calls by the refs during the first half of that game. It was so bad it was basically the talk of Twitter at halftime and was even called out on the halftime show.

-His back and forth with fans didn't help, but it was his repeated visible on-field exasperation with teammates that really got him on Clark Hunt's bad side from what I've heard.

-HOVG to me. Super memorable college player too.

In a way it felt like it was only 12 years, and in another way it felt like he was in the league for 25 years. Getting old helps lose all sense of time I guess!

can't believe he is retiring

guess 12 years in the nfl is a legit accomplishment even at 33
