Here's what a 14', 200lb gator looks like








Blake Daugherty and his sons, Cash Daugherty, 9, and Cruz Daugherty, 11, with a 14-foot, 1/4-inch alligator they caught on opening day of alligator season in Mississippi (Aug. 29, 2025).

I had gator for the first time this winter during a trip to the Gulf Coast. I was hooked after one bite! It is delicious!!

I’ve been enjoying gator at different places for a few years now. If your gator tastes like chicken, you may have been served actual chicken. Good gator tastes like… well, gator. Sort of a cross between chicken and pork and some other things*.


*I swear I’ve never tasted human flesh, but I have a sinking suspicion that gator may have taste or textural elements similar to human flesh. Perhaps I’ve just eaten gators that consumed a Florida Man or two.

Also, you’d probably make more money selling that gator hide to a luxury purse manufacturer, assuming the quality is top notch. I would never consider wearing boots like that unless I was planning to dress as a pirate or Liberace for Halloween.

In Florida you only get two tags a year. Louisiana is a bit different. Not sure what state OP is in though.
