The actual 1992 Marvel Masterpieces, not 92MM Platinum
It’s not generally wise to rip these boxes as they are worth more sealed, and always a big risk of bricking. But it’s my favorite set and an enjoyable rip. Main things I’m looking for are errors, and PSA 10 candidates of the checklist and battle spectra. The black checklist in PSA 10 would probably be the grail, it is almost *impossible* to find, and has a pop of just 4 (from this very overproduced set). The results: ![]() A luckily 100% unbricked box of beautiful cards. (So it’s still possible in 2025). 216 total cards. 3 battle spectra (expected). One complete 100 card base set + dups. Happy with the selection of battle spectra. No errors sadly, but they are rare in this set. ![]() ![]() ![]() None of the battle spectra are PSA 10 candidates unfortunately. Almost none of the base are either, surprisingly. Even with an unbricked box…there are too many centering issues (which continue from pack to pack, cards probably cut from the same sheet). Also the back corners often have some type of minor damage even direct from a pack. I counted maybe 3 PSA 10 candidates for base in the whole box. Got 2 checklists…one had a clear beat up back corner. The other..shown below…had me holding my breath for a moment. Front looks VERY clean. And it looks pretty centered too. ![]() The back…also very clean. There is the slightest, and I mean slightest little nick bottom right edge near the corner. But this one is so clean I might actually submit it. Probably comes back like a 9 or even an 8…but if it somehow comes back a 10, the box would be immediately paid for multiple times over (if I ever sold it which I doubt I would). ![]() Anyway, probably lost money on the rip but it was fun and these cards never get old.

That checklist is in really good condition. I would say it depends on the grader, but I have seen psa 10’s that look like that, or maybe even not quite that good. Definitely worth trying. Also, this set never gets old!

I agree, I think I’m going to submit it. I will update this thread when I get the result back, but with PSA it’ll be a lonnng time probably.
I’m not an expert with PSA grading…I have heard they got more strict with 10s lately, so it’ll probably be very unlikely. My guess is maybe a 9. But the prize of a 10 is worth that much to take the chance. In a modern landscape of numbered cards, PMGs, $1000+ cards, 1/1s, Fanatics breaks, and Whatnot etc…..sometimes I need to take a step back and remember why I collect. Opening this box is an example of that.
