Default I DID IT!!! Purchased first box since the year 2000 LOL Old school... Please HELP!

WOW you would think I just bought a box of Exquisite!!! lol

First box since around the release of that Fleer product that featured a replica autographed jersey in every box, can't remember the name exactly... But anyway, just purchase a box of old school Metal cards and I am super exicited about

Now, I don't expect to get anything, because I come from the old school days when hits came one out of every 50,000 packs(lol) so I know very well not to expect anything. However, I wouldn't mind pulling a Jordan PMG Or any other PMG for that matter. I'm not sure exactly what the rate is for pulling a PMG, but it's very high.

If not PMG, then second best I guess would be an Autographics

This is where I need your help please.

What does the Autographics from this box look like and does anybody have a checklist? I tried on Beckett but it doesn't show any Autographics for this set!?!?!

Who are the big names in this Autographics set? I also tried looking on ebay and searching for "1997-98 Autographics" but I think it was two different looking cards that came up, so are there two sets or something? Very confusing stuff! Any help is greatly appreciated.

One more thing, even though i'm sure i'm going to rip this right at the post office(LOL ) would you hold on to this box or bust it?

Would looooooove to pull ANY star player PMG out of this, not to mention the JORDAN!!! Or any Autographics... Btw, both of these cards are NOT guaranteed in a box, so it's a loooooooong shot, but still, you gotta hope...

If all else fails, hopefully I can put a set together. There are 24 packs and 8 cards per pack, so that makes it 192 cards. There are 100 cards to this set so hopefully I will come close after all doubles and inserts...

1997-98 Metal Universe Championship

I will post results...

Thanks!

Didn't buy it in a card shop... Lord only knows how long it's been since I walked into a card shop Maybe even longer than 2000! lol

Not sure if the guy put those stickers on there or maybe his local card shop... haha

EDIT: I was in a card shop in 2000-01 lol

Precious Metal Gems. They were a numbered parallel set from Metal. They came in green and red and recently have become highly sought after.

No problem! Questions are how you get answers... lol

PMG stands for Precious Metal Gems, as the poster above said. But only thing is, these are not the ones that come in Green. That's the other set, which i'm also looking for to buy a box of. I get confused myself with the two different names.

I guess my chances are even worst than what I thought... lol

How about Autographics, how many did you get of those if any?

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it!

Lisardo, sending you a PM.

Z Force baby...damn those were the days

BMOC...Raves/Super Raves

Championship Edition didnt have much outside of the Precious Metal Inserts..Trophy Case looked pretty sweet if i remember correctley..but think they were like 1:100 packs. I think the Autographics run about 1:150 packs.

Looking at Beckett checklist..seems like the set for 97-98 Autographics were 1:120 packs, so i was close. Set included (only bigger names i could find):

Barkley, Camby, Divac, Drexler, Tim Hardaway, Grant Hill, LJ, Starbury, T Mac, Reggie Miller, Mourning, Mutumbo, Pippen, Glen Rice, Rodman, Starks, Nique....everybody else arent relevant anymore lol

not sure if they inserted different ratios/different players with every different set, or if it was evenly distributed or not.

Good luck, i love this old stuff!

Yeah man I remember those Raves/Super Raves... Those were the days indeed I think it's more exciting now to open the boxes from the time then it was back then! lol I mean, back then it just felt magical opening up a box of cards, but now i'm just so excited and can't wait, like a kid at a candy store!

I did a little research myself on the net and came up with these two links which show Autographics as being 1 in only 72!!! That's not bad at all!!! One in 3 boxes

Here are the two links:

1997-98 SKYBOX METAL CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL BOX (03/07/2008)

and

1997/98 Skybox Metal Basketball Hobby Box | Dave and Adam's Card World

Only one way to find out though. When they actually come in i'll check the back of the pack... lol

Thanks

I think autographics were inserted across all products with different odds. Different players are inserted in different products. Some players are in multiple products. I think there were ink variations or century parallels too, this part I am not too sure.

I agree. I wasnt sure about the players being specific or not, but this is straight from the Beckett Checklist:

Randomly inserted in packs of all Fleer/SkyBox products, this set features autographs of some of the NBA's best players. For Hoops 1, these were inserted at a rate of one in 240 hobby and retail packs. For Hoops 2, these were inserted at a rate of one in 144 hobby and retail. For Metal and Metal Championship, these cards were inserted one in 120 hobby and retail. For SkyBox Premium 1 and 2, these cards were inserted one in 72 packs. For SkyBox E-X2001, these cards were inserted one in 60 packs. For SkyBox Z-Force 1 and 2, these cards were inserted one in 120 packs. Both Tracy McGrady and Rasheed Wallace only have Century Marks cards - no regular ones. Those cards are included in the set price, but are priced in the Century Mark set. The cards are not numbered and listed below alphabetically.

Either way it goes, good luck in your break!

Thanks for the info!

That would stink...

Hopefully my Sir Charles will be in the box lol

That does make sense though. Hopefully Metal Championship would be a good enough product for Sir Charles and others like him to be in it(fingers crossed).

Only one way to find out!

Can't wait to bust!!! Just for the fun of it though, because I already know not to expect anything. But who knows...

Thanks again.

it does for some products. Metal Uni didnt have 2 series.

Skybox Premium
Zforce

they had series I and II. THe rookies were found in series I and so was some of the bigger names. Like Jordan was in s1 and not s2.

Same goes with hard inserts. Like in Ulta you could pull Star supremes from only sII. sI had different inserts.

Thanks, so I have a better shot at a Jordan with Series 1 then right? I've been busting a couple series 2 and they haven't been great.

I pulled an auto out of skybox premium yesterday of Isaac Austin, I have no clue about who he is.

Good luck and seeing that box brings back so many memories!!! There was nothing like the 1990's for the hobby. Some feel the hobby has advanced with brands like Exquisite ect, but in my mind the super high end chase inserts were much more unique and awesome. It's kind of a cheap cop out by card companies to base everything that's supposedly "high end" on just numbered autos with patches! The way game jerseys and autos were used so sparingly in the 90's gave them true prestige! I remember being a kid and thinking "wow if I ever pulled a game jersey card I'd probably crap my pants" lol... Ahhhhh those were the days!!
