I hit a printing plate from 2008 Bowman Chrome after stopping at the LCS last night for a couple packs (some no-name prospect I can't even remember at the moment). The plate looks fine but border around the player is really poor condition (white marks, dings, etc).
Since it's a 1/1 of a crappy player, am I likely going to be disappointed if I send it in for a swap? Just wonder if anyone has sent in "rare" no-name players and actually been pleased with the replacement... |

No, no, no! Of course the printing plate is not in "mint" condition...it's been used!
It's like getting a GW jersey card that has dirt on it so you're returning it because you want a nice clean swatch! lol |

Not the plate itself, but the paper border thing they put on top of it...
Here's the same type of card, damage along those areas. Wish I would have brought it to work with me and scanned it ![]() |

Printing plates are just that.. I don't think I've ever seen a nice printing plate except for the framed variety...

Just a heads up that Topps won't replace a two year old card anyways.

I would actually be more concerned if the plate was in "mint" condition.

Since 1/1's "should" have been packed out I hope they don't have a replacement sitting on hand for you. That would mean they didn't pack some hits out

Printing plates are used to manufacture the cards. This is how they're supposed to look.

One of the reasons I hate selling plates on eBay. When I do I make very sure to clearly and boldly state that most printing plates have some sort of factory damage from their use and the one I'm selling is no different.
I wonder how many negatives have been given on eBay by people who buy a plate and don't understand that almost 100% of them are "damaged" in some way. |

I'm not concerned about the condition of the printing plate.
The paper border that they glue on top of the plate to make it a "card" is in really bad condition. Make sense? |

You guys must all have reading problems. The plate is fine. He is saying that the paper border they use on them is mangled. Has nothing to do with the printing process.

Even if it is damaged, Topps will not replace this because it has been over a year since that product was released. I would advise do not waste your time.

I honestly wouldn't even bother sending it in. Why would you want to send in a 1/1 printing plate and take the chance of NOT getting a 1/1 printing plate back? Are you planning on selling the plate? Plus, like others have said, they won't replace cards more than a year old.
I feel companies shouldn't put the paper borders on them anyway. Just pack them out in their natural condition. |

Who is the plate of?
I agree with the other members that stated that you won't get anything if you send it into Topps since the product has been out for over a year.
