Default The fork, 2011-12 season

Time to start declaring teams dead. With about 50 games left in the season, there are already some teams that should start to Fail for Nail because they aren't going anywhere this year.

This first one is painful, but the 2011-12 New York Islanders are finished.

It looked like this team was going to get it together. After years and years, we finally had a number goaltender in Al Montoya who is now on the shelf because Evander Kane ran him over. If that wasn't enough, the lack of reaction from the Islanders, usually one of the nastiest teams in the NHL, tells me all I need to know.

With teams needing to add defensemen to their lineup for the playoffs, I wouldn't be shocked to see Mark Eaton, Milan Jurcina, and Mark Streit on the trading block. Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo could both be dealt as they seem to have lost their mojo. Anything that could have gone wrong this season has so far, if someone will give the Isles a 3rd round pick or better for Evgeni Nabokov, they need to make the deal.

I want to be wrong, but I've seen enough bad Islander teams to recognize one.

Since I'm focusing on my personal agony, its time to stick a fork in the 2011-12 Montreal Canadiens.

HTF did this team nearly make the Stanley Cup finals two years ago only to turn into this?

What kills me is this team is flat-out awful and the local government is upset that they didn't hire a Franco-phone as a coach, so Randy Cunneyworth is a lame duck fill-in coach, not something that is going to work with a locker room that seems to have as much drama as Jersey Shore.

Peter Budaj has proven to be a servicable backup to Carey Price, and a good backup is a valuable commodity to a playoff team, so I would suspect he'd be going to another Budaj Call (couldn't help myself).

There isn't another really useful asset on this team, but if they are convinced that P.K. Subban is the problem (I don't see how he could be) then they need to make the deal right now. Get a lottery pick and see if they can get Yakupov.

Mike Cammerelli might make a good rental to some team, and for the love of all that is good, get Alex Avstin and David Fischer some time up with the big squad.

Same as New York, I want to be wrong, but I'm not.

Columbus is dead because they are 18 points back of fourth place in their division. I think Carolina and Anaheim are dead, but I'm not ready to read their rites just yet. Los Angeles looks like a team that is getting ready for a free-fall.

Go ahead, burn me in effigy.

Someone doesn't like the chances of a Los Angeles freefall I presume.

Well, being that the Jackets are the worst team in the NHL and can't stop a single shot, they've been done for awhile. Poor goaltending and even worse defense, a winning combination is not. Thought they could make the playoffs and the offense has been very good, but they are done.

No way to bury the Caps with them only 5 points out of a playoff spot and the best playmaker on the planet over there.

How are they done?

I mean i dont follow much..so unless they have a lot of injuries, or just play that poorly...

I dont see how 36 points, when the 8th seed is 39 points..with 48 games left means they are done..

Id think the Islanders, Hurricanes, Lightning, Blue Jackets, Ducks, Oilers are all done before the Capitals.

As fun as they are to watch, can we stick a fork in the Oilers...they are 50 games worth of maturation away, watch out next year with a couple more pieces

I think the Ducks are done already. I don't think they have it in them to do the same thing they did last year. Hiller is really inconsistent. Getzlaf is not himself. He looks very unmotivated. Sad that they had to suck so bad for Selanne's final season. I'm very disappointed. Glad I didn't pay for Center Ice this year.
