Default Has anyone ever seen one seller end so many amazing Colored Refractors in one night?

Now that the auctions are over, I guess it's okay to share. I was hoping to win a few of these cards at good prices, but the only cards I came close on were the Pineda Topps Chrome Red and Golds.

saojund | eBay

It seemed like almost everything went significantly higher than I anticipated, except for the Hellickson 2006 Gold Refractor BGS 9.5 that seems really cheap at $81. I couldn't believe that the Sonny Gray Gold Refractor AUTO went for $111 and is that far off centered top to bottom. Gray's Gold Refractors were selling for $55 just in late December with much better centering. Also, Matt Moore's Orange Refractor is already outselling the Gold Refractors of Verlander, Longoria, and Kershaw? Whatever happened to earning your prices?

So did anyone here win any of these cards? Also, how do we check if Wossa won some of them?

This will go perfectly with this after they are both sent to BGS.

Congrats. Do you have any idea what that card was going for near the end of last season? That was one of the few, along with the Longoria, that might have gone a little lower than I would have guessed.

bgs 9.5 sold for $1750. while 9s and raw sold from between 600-800. the scans looked real nice so i'd figured to take a chance on hitting paydirt. cant go wrong with the top auto of the best pitcher in the game.

I thought this too and then I looked at the actual scan listed in the auction and I don't think it looks that bad. I think the reason it looks so bad in the post is because it appears to be blown up and distorting the way things really look. Guess he'll just have to make the call when he gets the card.

If you look at other 2005 Verlanders, they all look like thin like that for some reason in bad scans but in-person, the autos are fine.

B/c you have so much experience. Thanks for the advice though.

I'll post a real scan when I get it. Others that do lots of grading said it was a fine gamble.

I picked up the BC Gold Hosmer auto

I sure as hell hope it looks as good in my hand as it did in the auction. I don't know if there's a ton of upside in the card as I paid a handsome price for it ($600) The most I've ever spent on a card by a good 150 bucks. I got all fired up by watching highlights of him just raking in youtube videos. If it doesn't come back 9.5 I may break it out....and I'll surely be back here crying to all of you about my nightmare of trying to run with the big dogs.

The only other BC Gold Hosmer that I saw a completed auction for went for like 569 so I did pay more than the last one, but only by $40.

Trying to stay positive about it, but only time will tell if I made a good decision.

Holy crap that seller cleaned up on those. I would have been dancing in the street as each auction ended.

Well, he hasn't responded to my question regarding a tracking number so there's a good chance he's already in Vegas making it rain!

About half of them were graded BGS 9 or 9.5, so I doubt that. I usually don't even bid on non gradable cards, but I still tried to get those Pineda's. If his first start is good or he starts out 4-2 for the Yanks, his cards should be selling double to triple their current prices.

I can only assume the raw stuff won't gem out. WHy else would someone who knows about grading leave that much money on the table? I would be surprised if any raw gets a 9.5/10.

Best thing said all post. I grade ALOT, and I never buy from people who are selling some graded and some not. There is no way a seller like that is leaving 1000's on the table and not grading those cards. Not to mention, I think all of the stuff went VERY high. For members sakes I really hope they do grade out well, but I stayed away from all those auctions because I thought 0 of them would be good for bgs... Again like I said I hope everyone here who bought them in hopes of grading them can.

Well it's obvious the seller isn't a mass grader or pro flipper-seems to me he just picked up a huge lot. His scans, pics, and listings suck. If you go through his FB, he has hardly any graded cards at all. There are way too many possible explanations to simply say the cards will be crap bc they're ungraded.
You just can't make assumptions all the time and just gotta gamble.

Of course I'm biased since I just dropped $736 on a Gold Verlander, but it looks pretty damn good to me and these guys don't come up too often. Centering, edges, and corners appear fine. Pixel ruler puts centering at 48/52. Just gotta pray to the surface gods.
The back looks great which points to sharp edges and corners, which the seller has already warranted in the listing. Card looks better than most of my 9.5 Brauns from the same year.

Like I said man I really do hope you get good grades on what you bought. Others as well, I know the other member bought the Hosmer gold. I hope he also gets a good grade on it. It's just a red flag to me when I buy, if someone has a bunch of graded cards with other highend, to me the other high end is not worth me buying, IMO. I'm sure everyone's opinions on this will vary as well.

There are still people out there who are not into graded cards and are fine with the raw card. I'm sure there are some who are bidding that are in that mindset.

No need to be sour. I'm just going by the scan and BGS criteria and results I've seen on autos that look like that. The auto looks like an 8, doubtful for even a 9. Great card even with an 8 or 9 on auto, IMO; but I think it would sell better raw.

compare:
2010 Bowman Chrome Bryce Brentz Blue Refractor RC Auto | eBay
1998 Sage Bronze Auto rc #A8 Vince Carter BGS 8 /310 | eBay
2005 SP Authentic GARY SHEFFIELD Gold BGS 9.5 9 Auto #8/10 NY Yankees | eBay
2011 Bowman Prospects BRYCE HARPER #BP1B BGS 9.5 Auto 8 Autograph Rookie RC | eBay
UDG Sign of the Times GOLD #15/25 CHRIS PERRY BGS 8.5 AUTO 8 SOTT #0417 | eBay
2001 UD UPPER DECK SPX #206 ALBERT PUJOLS AUTO ROOKIE BGS 8 AUTO 9 RARE ANGELS | eBay
2001 UDG SERGIO GARCIA PLAYER'S INK GOLD AUTO #22/25 BGS 8 /9 #0608 | eBay
1983-84 STAR #15 MICHAEL COOPER SP BGS WITH JSA 8 AUTO | eBay

Does the Verlander look closer to an 8 or 9 based on these examples? Or, 7?

I agree that the auto looks like it would get an 8 or 9...probably an 8. Even a broken clock is right...yada yada yada.
