I haven't seen anyone mention this (If they already did I apologize).
When I watched the video of Houdini hitting the 2012 Bowman golden ticket contract, I immediately noticed one thing: The golden ticket was right on top of the packs inside the box. With a perforated box top for displaying purposes, anyone who sells boxes can easily push down and peek inside the box to see if there is a golden ticket. I watched this video before I received my 4 boxes in the mail (2 boxes from 2 different outlets). I can honestly say that I have never consciously noticed in past years (or cared for that matter) if the perforation on the top of the box was broken when I opened my boxes. However this time, in both instances, I definitely noticed that you could already see the packs on the top of the box, and thus, there would not be a golden ticket inside. Were the people that shipped to me peeking before they packed my order? I for one thought this was a great promotion and added bonus by Topps. I am not here to complain about the placement of the golden tickets. I never had any expectations of getting one. However, in the future, I might suggest placing the ticket on the bottom or even in the middle between 3 rows of packs. The other purpose for writing this is to see if anyone else has noticed the same thing, or if anyone knows if the perforation is always broken on the top of Topps boxes. Again, not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, just a few thoughts. |

Good point OP and yes you are absolutely correct. Unless you buy a sealed case very good chance someone will do a quick contract peek. Odds are long any of us will receive but due to this the odds just got longer. I still feel that although over 95% of the stuff I purchase is untampered with there does remain 5% that makes me think my product has been cherry picked or pre screened. This despite fact all shrink wrap intact etc I just know when something feels off. Could be poor packing/ collating straight from factory or something more sinister like an expert hobby box opener and sealer. With this hobby nothing surprises me anymore. Buy from reputable sources like BO and inspect all your purchases. I am certain there are those who have an angle on best way to check certain products for certain hits. Both from retail pack searchers to higher end hobby searchers...

You think that's bad? I bought my cases from Veruca Salt's dad.... when I got them they were all ripped open and covered in chocolate. WTF!?

you bring up a very good point OP. Moral of the story is if you are buying individual sealed boxes from a LCS or at a show make sure and look to see if the boxes have not been "peeked" at.

Seems like common sense to me. Dont think it would be that difficult to keep the ticket hidden some how

Here is the thing, there are only 10 of these. Just 10.
The odds of your case or box having one are crazy. Can a shop owner peek? Yes. Can he find one when selling packs from a box? Yes. Remember, the odds are like the odds of pulling 5 superfractor autos.

Totally agree - never expected to get one. Point was only that Topps could do a better job with the placement. Could it be their way of throwing shop owners and case busters a bone? Again, Im not complaining, just a thought.

I have heard of less reputable dealers cherry picking their boxes. I have hit through several vendors. There was one guy who is no longer on eBay, I could not get a decent hit. Another member contacted me and told me about this cherry picking, I didn't think it was possible to do this. Anyway I read this and looked at my jumbos I got today.... Yep pushed in. WTF!! Oh well I didnt expect one anyway.
