Dante Stallworth Agrees to Plea Deal

Maybe it's just me, but I really cringe when the family of a person who is killed takes a cash settlement instead of seeing that the person responsible for the crime be put away. Similar to cases where priests rape people when they were children. Can a sum of cash really make it go away? I suppose if it's millions of dollars maybe. That's unfortunate. Again, I may be reading this the wrong way, but that's my opinion...

I was really hoping for him to get atleast 2 years jail time out of this so we could get out of that 5 year/35 million mess the Browns are in with him.

You also have to keep in mind Zacky that the entire string of events as told by Stallworth , the cops, and even by the family are far from black and white. Stallworth by LAW was over the legal limit, but by his own testament was NOT intoxicated. As the story goes, Stallworth was drinking the night before and did the responsible thing by not driving that night and instead leaving in the morning. it is documented in most jurisdictions that the actual intoxication of a driver as it relates to his blood-alcohol levels does vary

Also factor in the police report acknowledging that the pedestrian may have been jay walking given the time of day it occurred and the intersection in question! Think about that for a second, the "impaired" driver may NOT have been at fault!

i personally am not saying stallworth shouldn't go unpunished, but I have a hard time with ending his career and ultimately punishing him for a very long time if the morning in question has so many questions surrounding it. I can only assume that the Family isn't taking the money not because any $$ sum is more important than their lost loved one, but seeking "hard justice" in such a sketchy situation and is just as irresponsible.

I got a DUI in January of 2005 and just last year, 3 years later is when I got off of probation.

He also got 10 years probation, and 1,000 hours community service, which I am sure he will never have to follow through with.

2 years house arrest, 8 years probation & 1000 hours of community service. If he violates he will go to prison. Probation is hard for anyone to complete. If he does well in his 1st four years of probation he might get early termination.

Not sure I understand that. All you have to do is not break the law. Why should that be so difficult? I served a two-year probation with a $200 fine when I was 18 until age 20 because I stole a $15 pack of cards from ShopKo. I got through probation fine, but that was quite a lesson for me.

You would be surprised!!! I didn't say it wasn't doable. There are different stipulations in every probation.

No drinking, no drugs, random tests. If you don't show up that is a VOP!

Yeah, I never really thought of that part. I really didn't have to deal with the stuff you mentioned, guess it is more than just not breaking the law during the probation period.

The reality is he will have to live with ending another person's life and Stallworth had no criminal record whatsover leading up to this. I remember my college days and if you were like me, it could have happened to you too. I'm not excusing it by any means - a truly tragic incident, but it could have happened to anyone - drunk driving sucks - unfortunately, many people think they are fine to drive and do so until they end up in a horrible situation as this. God Bless all involved and hopefully the headline will just stop one person from drunk driving in the future.
