Default 09/10 Black Hockey

What are the thoughts on this? I never do well with Black, esp basketball, but I remember last year cards were selling pretty high. I really hate that you get a manufactured patch in each pack, but I do like the look of the cards.

I only ever get a couple boxes of Black (any sport) but how is it as a case product? Did last year's seem to have a "case hit?" I'm thinking about it but when you figure it is the same as a Cup case it isn't that appealing, especially with a full HALF of the cards being manufactured letters.

UD Black HK, even though there is not officially any guaranteed case hits like in BK (where there is 1 or 2 "A" list autos guaranteed), is always a 'safer' bust like any high end UD if you know what has come out of the case. If you keep track of a factory 10-box case and someone has already struck out on a few boxes, that's where the upside is in terms of ripping wax at a LCS, for example. Out of the maybe 10 cases I saw from last year, each had at least 1 limited Crosby, Ovechkin, Orr, et al auto come out of each, and I would say *on average* every 2nd or 3rd box (2 packs each) had a nice card in it. Obviously nothing is guaranteed and you have to be prepared to get reamed every so often, but that's how it seemed to me last year.

Not sure how if Tavares is in this product, but he would add another dimension to the product if he was. There are cut autos, Black Ice jersey/autos this year, and foldout booklets which may be collectible, we will have to see how the early breaks go...

Bleh!!! You get more cards than in Basketball but if you don't hit anything good you are out $$$$!

Unless they are going to sell for $100 or less per "box"(2 packs) I wouldn't touch it.

Will be starting off at $180-200 per box and considering there is a bit of a wait until UD S1 and ITG UM9 comes out, is somewhat the only high end wax in town (relative to OPC that is out). Thus I think it would probably dip only slightly in the short run unless the breaks are truly awful (like 09-10 Exquisite BK).

Since there are not any high end products outside of last years CUP, long term value I believe will depend on how the rookies are configured in the product and how the rookies do compared to last year's rooks. If in early breaks people start pulling Tavares rookie cards/inserts or similar per case, and Tavares remains hot, that would definitely help a lot.

Well, it's been delayed again. There have been a few products I've been debating about recently that have all been delayed, so that'll cut out any impulse buys, lol. Those card companies could've had my money, oh well!

The only reasonable explanation is to include some of this year's rookies in the set - Tavares, Hedman, Duchene, vanRiemsdyk, etc. Doubt that's the case.

Never understood why such a high-end release would be made with none of the high-profile rookies. They should just scrap Ultimate or OPC Premier altogether and replace it with Black in the spring with legitimate rookie content.

I wouldn't mind seeing Premiere go.

Much to my surprise UD already has the Black checklist up.

Upper Deck Sports | Collector's Zone Card Set Home

Wouldn't mind the Babe Ruth cut auto.
