Default So Lebron won't do a dunk contest....

But does these during pregame warmups?

Great dunks by Lebron, no doubt about, but again, begs the question, why not to a dunk contest? Clearly it's got nothing to do with fear of injury

Maybe he just doesn't want to. Good enough reason for me.

Agreed...one of the coolest trick dunks I've seen in a while.

The clip would have been 3x more sick if the guy knew how to hold an iPhone for taking video.

I'd like to see some of the best players do the dunk contest, not scrubs. But not worried that they don't want to do it, just choose not to watch it.

I don't usually support Lebron but I'm on his side on this one although I didn't like him saying he was going to stop doing it then, sounded a bit "pouty" but whatever. Does that mean that every player who makes a 3 pointer or two in warmups has to be invited to that as well? What I like is that it's bringing people to the game earlier to see what he does and isn't that what really matters--that people are coming to see him play? If I'm the NBA, I ask him every year to come and then see if he accepts and leave it at that.

I'm guessing because he doesn't want to. What other reason does he need?

I actually appreciate him having fun during warmups and giving the fans a show.

I could careless about the dunk contest ... and so does LeBron.

He should do the dunk contest, a lot of the stars should, he used to talk about it. He and others are afraid of losing, their sponsors are too.

Cant get mad at them for not doing it, just disappointing.

The sponsors don't care if a player loses an All Star exhibition. Your comment makes no sense. If anything being in the contest adds to the sponsors marketability. Some if you may not remember but Dee Brown wore the Reebok Pumps and pumped then up before one of his dunks and Reebok sold a ton of shoes and got so much promotion from that display. It went viral before there was even an Internet.

Sponsors want to see their players compete, that is why they pay them the big bucks.

He's also got nothing to gain from it. If he doesn't win, he'd probably get toasted and if he does, it's not a shock. Let the younger guys making a name from themselves do it.

Uhh yeah they do. You mean to tell me Nike or whomever Lebron is with doesnt worry he might lose to someone like Jeremy Evans? Of course it makes sense, no sponsor wants their main guy to lose to the likes of Jeremy Evans and Nate Robinson on national TV.

What does Dee Brown winning 20 years ago have to do Nike saying "No Lebron, we dont want you losing to Gerald Green in the Slam Dunk contest"?

Considering its a fan vote, he wont lose but trust me I am sure he has pressure from people not to do it to save face. I am sure there are other reasons, but this is def one too.

Please show me something from Nike saying they don't want him in the contest. You made that ridiculous claim, now back it up.

By the way, the Reebok Pumps are iconic with much do to that contest.

If there was a larger group of stars commited to the dunk contest, it would probably work out better. if the all stars don't want to do it for charity then the nba should let the charity know about it. I.E. tell the charity that the player has received a formal invitation to participate on their behalf in the dunk contest with winnings going to them (charity). Then the players will be more inclined to participating. Get 5-6 all stars roped in like this and boom, you get a nice dunk comp.

Darren Rovell had something on it, but its common sense. Nike isnt going to come out and say "We dont want Lebron in the contest because it might hurt his brand"

Gimme a break, use common sense for once. You think they'd be happy if he lost to scrubs in the dunk contest? Honestly, answer that. Please. Do you think it would hurt his image?

Dee Brown and Lebron James and your comparison arent the same, Dee Brown as much as I loved him was a borderline NBA player, and again, he was doing the dunk contest when actual stars participated.

I think it is a control issue, it is basically the one thing he still has control over the fans who hate him and the media. I think it is just a game for him, give the people just enough, but keep them wanting for more!

Besides, Skip Bayless and half the turds on this board would just make excuses like, "Ohh look, Lebron beat out some scrubs, he didn't beat, Kobe, j richardson, etc,. This doesn't compare to Jordan doing the contest.

I like it that he is telling people to go suck lemons.

This is pretty lame reasoning. Even if he lost the dunk contest it wouldn't 'hurt his brand'.

Lebrons brand has already been through things 20x worse then losing s dunk contest.

Maybe they should tell him to stop going for blocks in games so he doesn't get dunked on and hurt his brand. Maybe they should tell him to only attempt dunks so his missed shots don't hurt his brand. Lol

Another reason Kobe > Lebron. Kobe DID the dunk contest and didn't need to 'keep the people wanting for more' and look how kobe's career has panned out. if a player is unsure of himself, then that's one thing but to 'keep people wanting more' sounds like a bitchh play for someone who is supposed to be the best in the game

And Kobe is thankful that no one remembers that dunk contest.

Kobe sucked in that thing. Everyone else just sucked more.

I was there live for that one in Cleveland. Top 3 worst dunk contest of all time without question.

Kobe is just lucky people forget he even did it.

if LeBron wants to be the best in history, then he better make it official, otherwise he will forever go down in history as the great in game dunker who never had the balls to enter a dunk contest. All the great dunkers in history have done the dunk contest, if Lebron doesn't do it, it speaks volumes to how much he cares about what fans want.
