Default 2010 topps minor league product

i cant beleive there using the same design as boring 2010 topps. why the hell do they do this ? i guess they really dont care about the real collectors.

how lazy can they be ?

They are Topps, and They are exclusive- No creativity needed. They don't care.

Default Not too many prospects...

The checklist they show doesn't seem to have any blockbuster prospects, IMHO. Some guys have already been on Bowman products like Moustakas.

While this set is crap, go ahead and sit on your thumb while I bust Topps 1 and turn a profit just like every year. While keeping a complete master set for myself. That is one of the only no brainer products every year. I don't see why you are so up in arms about a product that has a box cost of $45 and $60 for jumbos.

a set's design is realy important to me. for the past few years the topps designs have been so boring and bland. it's like theres no effort there.

i have bought a few boxes here and there. but not much. i would buy alot more if they looked better. i do rip and flip , but not very much. so merely buying some boxes to sell the cards and 'hope" for a profit is not my thing.

i collect mostly for myself.

Using the same design is a GREAT decision. Its what worked for Upper Deck and their very successful Prospect Premieres releases from 2001-2003. This is shaping up to be as solid of a product as a minor league product can be.

really ? the team logo and the players name on the bottom with his position. then to the left you have a little swoooooooosh of color . wow ? that was hard to come up with. who ever came up with it, probably took them 2 seconds to come up with it.

very little creativity there

Most of the vintage Topps designs were very uncreative and simple. And those designs have become so popular that they reprint the designs every year now for various sets. Pacific had some of the most creative and innovative designs and look where that got them.

I personally don't have a problem with the designs lately, including the 2010 design... but I can understand if you find it too bland for your tastes. But the main issue is that Topps was smart to use the same design (however good or bad you think it is) for the minor league set as the staple Topps product.

swerve, I'm one of those guys that loves the design of this years Topps 1. Its clean, simple, and focuses on the photography. Those who are saying its too plain need to remember, this is the base product. It is a set builders product and I would be terribly disappointed if it were covered in foil in an attempt to make it look like a higher end product. Do you like the base UD design that is just a picture and a name written in silver from 08? Now thats a plain and boring design.

I'm not trying to change anyones mind here and respect your thoughts/opinions, it just seems to me that people expect too much out of a $2 /pack product.

I completely agree with you. Base products aren't supposed to be extravegent designs. They should be simple for all of us set builders. I personally really like this years design

i defenetly disagree that the vintage designs were un creative and simple.

1960, 1963, 1965 , 1968,

1972 , 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1979

i would not describe these as bland

yes the upper deck base is very plain. i know this is just regular topps. i just feel they can be a little more creative. the last one i really liked was 04 and 05

as far as the minor league product ,the logo on the upper left hand corner makes the card look nicer to me.

So Tri-Star lost the rights to the 'Pro Debut' designations?

THe new Sterling will be a highly sought product, might have some good prospects patches or something.

Yes. Topps got the exclusive on Minor League cards so Tristar can no longer make them

Well I didn't dare go near them when Tri-Star made them but maybe I'll be interested now. We'll see.

Just to be clear-TriStar CAN still make minor league cards-they just have to airbrush the names of teams off of jerseys, hats, helmets, etc. because they no longer have a contract with minor league baseball.

Tri-Star could still make cards of the independent leagues (Northern, CanAm, Golden, American Association, Atlantic, Frontier, United, etc), but I don't see that happening.

The latest Tristar release has all current minor leaguers as far as players go, but all of them have airbrushed blank uniforms. Basically the same situation as Upper Deck and MLB products in 2010... they can use all the players, just no logos on the cards or the pictures (since UD still has a MLBPA license). You don't need a special license to use minor league players on cards though. Just one to use the team and league logos.

I don't really see a problem with the design. I'm actually a fan of minor league products. I opened a box of 2008 Projections last year and it piqued my interest to by more of that sort of thing in the future. I might just get another box or two of Projections this for my Christmas thing actually.
