I started thinking about it today. I am 9 cards away from completing my Morgan Burnett collection, but haven't gotten a card in 3 months. I am getting bored. None of the current packers "excite" me so I went back and looked at retired players I liked.
Would this be difficult? Here is what you need to know. When I start a collection, I want to complete it, meaning I want one of every card made from the player, excluding 1/1s. I think it might be hard to pick a player hat isn't already supercollected. Anyways, anyone ever done this or thought of doing this? |

I collect Ken Anderson and it is the best thing imo that I have decided to do. I am starting to think about collecting Dave Cowens heavily now

Sounds like a good idea. Should be fun searching for older cards.
I shifted my focus to Lions HOFers once the Amari Spievey cards I needed were few and far between. It's been fun especially chasing down the older cards from the 40's and 50's. Good luck with whatever you decide.

As a Drew Bledsoe collector that didn't collect his cards from 1996-2006, it's tough to "catch up". It can be hard to find certain cards. It can get expensive. And it can get stale quickly because stuff /25 or less just simply doesn't show up. If its valuable you can get "jaderocked" and if its not valuable no one lists it. I'm by no means attempting to discourage you from starting a collection, but wanted you to know it can be frustrating. Despite the frustration, it's rewarding when you get something you've been looking to obtain for years

Been on the fence with this a while... debating whether I can/should keep collecting Pats at the pace I have been, or just go with a few "old" guys. I'm 35 now, and it kind of weirds me out buying autographed cards of people so much younger than me. Pretty sure I will eventually cave, sell off to just keep 1 "favorite" auto of current/younger guys, and just collect about a dozen 90's Pats, been slowly steering myself in that direction and honestly I think it is more fun and challenging trying to find some of the low #d stuff- even the RAVE and LEGACY cards can be quite tough to find, even though they're #d to 150 & 100.

Basically all I collect is Steeler HOFers and it's tough and expensive but it's a lot of fun. I mainly collect Franco Harris and his prices keep going up.

I'm in the same boat as b-shaft, it gets weird when you hit your 30s. From one packer fan to another, collect Sterling Sharpe. The guy was an absolute animal. The only, and I do mean only, wide out better than Sterling in his day was Rice and he was in his prime. If Sterling were able to play 15 seasons instead of 7, his career numbers would be about 1,400, 18,000, and about 160 TDs.
Plus he's super cheap |

Yes, so fun to watch! I will never claim to be a professional evaluator of football talent but even as a child it was easy to see how great of a player he was. Man amongst boys most of the time, and at the highest level.

I have several PC's going.... My Marino one will never die, he'll pop up in products forever... My other 4 are interesting... Carlos Perez (forgotten pitcher from 95-02), Sam Madison (Fins CB 97-03), Patrick Surtain (Fins CB 98-04), and Karim Abdul-Jabbar (Fins RB from 96-99). The cards of the final 4 are very difficult to locate. And if its /100 or less, it costs me $5-10 each.

My problem was that every time I tried to start a collection of a certain Steeler player, they would leave within a year or two. Or if I tried my hands at a certain rookie, they would always flop. So, I decided to give that up after getting my first HOF cut autograph in a group break.
So, that started me on my journey of trying to collect an autograph of every person in the NFL HOF, though at first I was only doing players, but soon it became everyone. Today, I am only 20 short, with 2 more new ones incoming. I am at a point where it's gotten very hard and VERY expensive, but now it's more about the chase than anything.

Thanks for all of the responses.
I really want to know though. If I was going to seriously supercollect, the way I do, one of each card, is this possible? |

If money isn't an issue, try to start now with newer stuff (if they have cards) and work your way back. Don't get base/inserts unless you can get throw ins or add to bigger deals. It's tough to say because I don't know how finances are, and I shouldn't. But that's my advice. |

I think one way to make the task a little easier is to start by only collecting the cards issued while the player was active. Most HOFers have had tons of cards issued in retro/archives sets and the like over the past fifteen years, usually far outnumbering the number of cards they actually had issued during their career.
For example Bart Starr (since you are a Packers fan) had 28 cards issued during his career....and has had another 845 cards issued since he retired. |

None of the new Packers excite you?! Casey Hayward is phenominal and super exciting to watch! I currently have 3 autos with a 4th on the way! Not including Green Crown Royale /49 as an extra added unexpected bonus from a trade last month.

Yes. The majority of cards get put onto the market in a 5 -10 year span. There will always be a few you never see, but if you look at my Marino PC, I've only been SERIOUSLY into Marino since 2005. I've found cards I thought I'd NEVER see and passed up TONS more I wish I'd see again.

Probably not if they are a main stream HOFer, Marino, Sanders, Elway, etc you'll never catch up or be able to stay caught up at 1 of everything...you'd have to pony up a lot of $ to just get started and then chasing all the elusive stuff that really hits your pocket...
