I'd like to hear the opinions expressed for the following players. Not the big named minors players you hear of everyday like Buxton, Sano, etc, but certainly worth mentioning:
Stefen Romero Nolan Fontana Sam Selman? Mark Montgomery Matt Szczur Mike Olt Defend or attack them, either way, let's hear it! |

Only one I have any real knowledge of is Olt and he has potential to be a power/low average machine. The issues are his vision problems coupled with the fact he is older than many prospects could be a factor too,

Szczur has the potential to be a solid on base guy, not much pop,
But he can hit.

Romero- a little too old to truly be a top prospect but seems MLB ready
Fontana- Power nonexistent, likely will not make much of an impact at the big league level Selman-solid numbers but a little old for high A as he turns 23 in November Montgomery- wipeout slider and an average fastball, could make an impact at the big league level next season Sczcur- don't know much about him Olt- same as Romero

Why is Olt still in Triple A? Don't the Cubs want to see what they have at 3B with him?

Didn't Olt get hit in the head with a fastball a while back? Being a key component in the garza trade, you would think the cubs would give him a chance in the Bigs.

He had vision problems earlier in the year but seemed to be over them.

Montgomery has some hype with him, but I wonder if the pressures affiliated with the Yankee media and the "filling in the shoes" of Rivera will get to him. Not that they're expecting someone to take over where Mariono left off, but there are definitely high hopes for his replacement.

They will call him up in September, he has been playing well the last few games but overall he has struggled.

Why don't the Mariners call up Romero? They're out of playoff contention, and they seem to be giving everyone else a Big league shot (roster is full of young guns). It just seems fitting that they give him a go before the year is over, and maybe they will? |

May not be performance that is holding him, since it is a new club for him maybe there is some new behind the scenes stuff they want him to be doing or prepared for.
