Default Money Orders

What are your experiences with money orders? I'm using one to pay an ebayer and I just wanted to see what you think about them. :special:

Does not matter. Feedback does not mean much. He can still screw you.

True. It's only $6.25.

I would talk to the person. To get a better feel of the seller. I have sent money orders AND accepted them, but only after getting a warm fuzzy (or what I thought was...) about the other person.

Is there a reason you can't use paypal?? Seems like alot of extra risk and work for a 6$ card.

As a buyer I would never use a money order. As a seller, I have no issue with them if the buyer gets them from the post office. All others tend to be a pain.

I was asked yesterday if i would accept a M.O. Still haven't responded..My initial reaction is cashier's check/banker's check (if they still make those?).

How is your luck accepting Post Office M.O.?

No issues w/ counterfeiting?

I have never had a problem with accepting them. Before Paypal, money orders were commonplace.

Personally I don't have issue with money orders. It's my bank. They won't cash them. They have told me they have a lot come back as bogus. The post office money orders, on the other hand, l can be validated right there at the post office. On the rare occasion somebody sends one I just take the cards to the post office, use the money order to pay for the shipping, and pocket the change. If I ever do get one that is counterfeit (this has not happened yet) I will find out before the cards are sent.

If I accepted money orders I would still treat it like a personal check/cashier's check. Waiting the 10-14 business days until it fully clears the bank with no chance of bouncing.

I'll take them, but I don't know what level of protection they're supposed to provide anyone. The very first item I ever purchased on eBay, in 1998, I paid by money order - $7. The seller claimed they never got the money order. When I went back to the place that sold me the money order, they told me that it would cost $12 just to check if the money order had ever been cashed. If it was, then they'd give me the $7 but not the $12. So I would have been just as well off stapling cash to the back of a postcard.

USPS money orders are gold, though. You can cash one at any post office right then and there.

Depends on the amount, my PO will not cash money orders over 25.00. Because they are a small branch and most of their customers use cards. For them I either have to drive 35 miles to a larger office or drop them in my bank. They are a real PITA in my opinion

As a buyer, they can be the worst thing. You have zero protection and a seller can get any feedback you leave them removed easily should the transaction go bad in any way. In fact if you read the new wording of the Ebay policy its actually against Ebay rules to even send a money order to pay for an item except in certain categories.

get them at the post office and he can cash them at the post office. send it w/dc and not just a pwe so you know it was received. I think you can even track them to see it was cashed, but don't quote me on that.

I've never sent one for an ebay payment, but I have taken plenty over the years. I always let the buyer know that I will not ship until it has cleared my bank if it is not a usps one.

Just sayin, you can stick a money order in a bubble mailer & Toploader for $1.69 with tracking

Don't have to send the money order in a PWE.
