The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2013-14 Gold Standard Basketball (96 Pics)
Feb 11th 2014, 19:33, by Tracy Hackler

In just a few short days, NBA collectors will be treated to another epic gold-digging expedition when Panini America releases 2013-14 Gold Standard Basketball, the fourth installment of the gilded offering that has established itself as one of the most anticipated launches of every NBA collecting season. The newest edition offers updated tweaks to the product’s highly polished staples such as Black Gold, White Gold, Bullion Brand, cards featuring real 14kt gold discs and some of the top Rookie Cards of the year.
We’ve brought you occasional sneak peeks of the treasures coming to 2013-14 Gold Standard Basketball in recent weeks (including yesterday’s jaw-dropper featuring some of the product’s most-prime memorabilia cards). Today, though, we’re provided a comprehensive look at the product using images mined during the recent Quality Control process.

Although 2013-14 Gold Standard Basketball releases across North America next Wednesday, participating Panini Roundtable stores will receive a special sneak-peek of the release beginning Friday in their stores. After the gallery, we’ve provided the complete product checklist. Enjoy, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of 2013-14 Gold Standard Basketball.

this preview does a good job of dissuading anyone from buying this product. there are 3 cards shown that would sell for more than $20. panini's preview process mirrors exactly what the card industry has done for the last 20 years. its taken a good idea, preview pix of products in this case, and then way overdone it. why do we need to see 96 pix of low value cards. even on immaculate which is a product everyone was really excited for, they showed so many cards that it got overwhelming. just show a couple cards of each insert set & be done with it. if i was on the fence about buying this product, this post would definitely make me go with not buying it.

I don't see this is a treat for collector. I don't see this product is one of the most anticipated products. Stop lying. Stop hyping.

Wouldn't Hackler get fired if he stopped doing his job? He has to hype Panini stuff hoping it will sell. And in this case, he had to lie.

They probably should have just stuck with the patch and not show the regular hits.

Cards look pretty nice imo. Kent Bazemore's signature is ridiculous.

3rd yr auto sticker of Lavoy Allen, in a $180 per box release is what really gets me. I can understand during his rookie year, but its year 3, he barely ever plays, NO ONE other than his mother wants to pull a card like this in a 10 card box/pack that costs almost $200. This isn't to pick on Lavoy Allen, but him and the countless other sticker dumps of garbage players like this to populate these products is such a major bummer.

I actually really like the Ring Bearers cards. I would imagine fans of the teams that won championships wouldn't mind collecting their teams cards of that subset. There are ZERO Mark Lansberger auto's on ebay right now and only 3 Fred Brown's that are certified by the card companies. Lansberger was by no means a star for the Lakers but he most certainly was a underdog fan favorite type. If only the Nuggets had won a title!

The gold scripts sticker autos look SO bad. Big white rectangle right in the middle of a shiny gold card...

If you have to create hype with your own force, customer gets tired of it. The hype would come from the hobby, not the company itself. He is hurting the company more than helping.

Hackler's job is to inform us what is going on in Panini, not making the company looks like an idiot by posting garbage and inaccurate information. He can post the hit information. He can post who is on the checklist(not those no name players). He can post which set of auto is rarer.
