PayPal Direct & Seller Protection

Have a potential buyer wanting to use paypal direct (outside of ebay) for a listing that I have on ebay. I wouldn't mind saving the ebay fees, but is there any protection for the sale. I thought I read that paypal direct processed sales are not covered under the seller protection agreement. Any insight would be appreciated.

Unless savings are over $30, save yourself the hassle and use ebay.

That is what I thought, but I saw this in the FAQ section of the PayPal Seller Protection section.

What types of transactions are covered?

All transactions for tangible goods that were paid for with PayPal are eligible for coverage if they meet the requirements for US sellers-except those processed through Virtual Terminal or PayPal Direct Payment. Read the PayPal User Agreement for our complete terms of coverage.

Not real familiar with PayPal protection and didn't know if PayPal Direct is some other branch/service they offer?

Thank you for the insight, sale is pretty large in my book, over $1,500, and the potential buyer has good feedback, but doesn't have active feedback since 2011...

paypal and ebay are the same company. Especially as a seller, its the same protection for paypal and ebay. Make sure there's tracking for all packages, if the item is over $250, make sure signature confirmation is provided so they see that someone from the address actually signs for the package. And i'll choose to deal off ebay 100% of the time just because of the 10% fee you can save. I do try to do some deal on ebay so i can keep the top rated seller status for 20% discount and that requires like 100 transaction and certain amount per year.

yeah just ship it with paypal shipping and you have to have signature confirmation. if you dont have signature confirmation the regular tracking and or insurance wont save you probably. so make sure you get that.

now if you could get the buyer to send you via paypal gift, you'd save another $43.80 and they wouldnt be able to do a chargeback. of course they probably wouldnt send that much in gift form without knowing you. but no reason to sell through ebay if the buyer wants to go directly over paypal, youre just saving $150 by doing that.

I wouldn't accept gift unless you trust the guy.

You aren't saving much with FVF's. Its worth it having the Ebay protection & the feedback system set up.

Opens the door for so many scams/mail fraud.

sorry to say but ebay and paypal protection are a joke. i've been completely screwed as both a buyer and seller. pay with your credit card thru paypal so that you can get some real protection. now when the tards at ebay or pp tells me i'm out of luck, i just laugh and call my CC.

Don't ur Paypal get in trouble if u do chargebacks through ur credit card?

not at all. paypal makes buttloads of money off of its users. they are very hesitant to shut people down.
