Default Is this Kevin Garnett Autographics Fake?

I'm starting a new PC project after I completed my Chrome RC Refractor project.

Looking to get star/HOF/future HOF Autographics autos. Recently picked up a 99-00 Shaq and 98-99 Duncan.

I was looking at this KG and the signature almost looks too good to be true. Any Skybox Autographics experts want to weigh in?

As far as the auto or the card itself?

Sorry, should of clarified. I'm assuming the card is real, but who knows. Was asking about the autograph.

It is absolutely legit. As good as you will see. Fakes tend to have a thicker pen and look a little more squashed. Search here and there is a v good thread all about KG fake autographics, you'll see all you need to on that thread.

Just curious what the alternative would be to the auto being authentic, if we're assuming the card is authentic (which I have no reason to think it's not).

If the card's authentic, it was signed by KG at one point. So, are you suspecting that somebody might have scrubbed off the original signature (which may have been streaky, off-card, or whatever) and replaced it with a clean, on-card forged auto? That's certainly possible, but it seems like a ton of work and a hugely disproportionate risk for what is maybe $20 of marginal value (from, say, an 8 auto to a 10).

Just my $0.02, of course, but I would say that if the card's legit, the overwhelming likelihood is that the auto is also legit.

These fade a lot, sometimes people try to re-draw a fresh sig.

Otherwise, some scumbags erase a black signature and write in a blue one (blues are SP'd ...except KG I think)

Actually other way around on KG. Blues are all SPs in the set but for KG the black ink is the shorter print

This KG looks pretty good though IMO

I'll stake my collector reputation, and say that it's real...

@paul06901: I do agree with you that you'll see a lot of these autographics faded because there were no UV protected cases back then. Collectors tend to display them in well-lit cabinets not knowing that exposure to ordinary light as well as sunlight are the worst enemies. I know because I've had experience in the printing business.

For a card like this, and with unfaded ink, that tells so much of the seller who took extra care of it. I have cards from this products that are just as unfaded as this because I place them in opaque boxes and in a humidity controlled environment just to prevent cards from sticking to either the case or the soft sleeve.

I hope this helps.

Yeah that's what I meant by "Except for KG", meaning, blues are SP'd except blue KGs...

You should see some of the card stores I've seen recently. Non-UV protected display cases holding hundreds of autographed cards all with faded signatures, some barely visible. To think that these dealers can't tell this is happening and address it, is beyond me!
