Question Am I doing something wrong on COMC????? I just don't understand some sellers.

I don't understand what is up with some of the sellers on there. I have been looking for Cecil Fielder cards for my new player pc and sent member pyweed an offer of .86 on a card that was $1.06. Keep in mind he has 12 of the exact same card. I got an e-mail today saying the offer was declined and now all 12 cards are $2.03.

Are 1994 Sportflics really that in demand??

I really wish you could message sellers on COMC. There are a number of cards I would like, but the prices are just crazy on some. You can offer, but not always. Sometimes I am just hoping for a couple dollars less, but have no way of letting the seller know we aren't that far apart.

I like the site and actually picked up 186 different Fielder cards a couple weeks ago, but some of the sellers on there are impossible to deal with. There could be a card listed for $1.00, I would offer .80, and it would be declined (without a counter either). I would offer .90, and it would be declined......

Why even have the offer option on your cards then??!!!!

Just needed to share my thoughts......thanks....

Because its automatically added. In the end its the sellers cards they can do whatever they choose to with them.

Could be raising prices to raise the port value in hopes to sell it off at a better price.

Thanks for that info. I didn't realize it was an automatic thing. So, that answers that question.

Raising the price on 12 cards after just declining a fair offer makes them come off as a jerk to me. You are right about it being their cards though, I just don't understand it.

I have done it before. Had a card I priced at 2.00 instead of 12.00 on there, the buyer made an offer of 1.50 and I caught the error(luckily nobodyelse snaggedit). There are some sellers who do it to be jerks, but it could be due to a legitimate error.

I hear what you were saying, but this was a 1994 Sportflics Cecil Fielder card. It's a common card that I have already, but I noticed a scratch on it, so wanted to replace it. I could understand if it was a $12 card and they accidentally put $2.

Here's the answer, but you aren't going to like it.

He had a price, you offered. He probably searched that card, and found only one other seller had it, for $2.25. He raised his price so he would be 10% lower than the other seller, figuring that if you really wanted this card, you would still buy it from him, but he would make $1.00 more.

Even if you don't buy it, he's not out anything more than the $1.00 he was originally asking.

tl;dr

He is an ass, and wants to make an extra buck off you now.

Haha....that might be true, but actually he is the only seller with the card. ALL 12 OF THEM!! Lol....

He probably figures I will pay the extra $1.00 if I want it that bad, but man it's a common 90's card. I could also understand if it was 1 out of 1 on the site, but HE HAS 12 OF THEM!

EDIT: After looking again I didn't notice the next page of cards. You were right. He actually has 15 of the same card and another seller has one for $2.25. That's the reason right there. Still lame........

I really wish you could message sellers on COMC.

QUOTE]

This is one of the greatest benefits of COMC,as you do not have to listen to all the emails explaining why the buyer can only pay a certain amount because it only sold for XXXX before etc etc....

Sure, sometimes it would be useful, but the BD buyer emails would far outweigh the others.

Yeah, I do understand that. The annoying messages would probably outweigh the good ones. Even though I'm not trying to lowball anyone, I could see how that would happen a lot.

you would be amazed.......

it goes both ways. for every seller who is difficult, there is a buyer the same way. as a buy and seller, you tend to learn the tendencies of others on the site.

Honestly, I am guilty of contacting a member from comc here on Blowout. I was really just asking it they would be willing to work out a deal for 3 cards I wanted. I never mentioned a price or anything and I never received a response. I wasn't upset about it though. I just figured they had it priced the way they wanted it.

It never hurts to try......usually.

A large amount of sellers on COMC are just pure WEIRDOS.

I mean, the situation you're describing, is ridiculous.

A lot of those guys just like to play silly games, as well as extort people.

That 1994 Sportsflics Fielder is worth about $.01 in reality, if not less. It's a junk common. Someone like you, as a collector, is willing to WELL overpay on it, and someone really wouldn't take an $.80 offer on a $1.06 pricing?

I just sold a lot of 30,000 commons/rcs/inserts to some guy who said he's going to put them all on COMC after he filters through them. COMC isn't worth it to me to send any card that's worth less than $1.00. So it's CRAZY that people are willing to pay almost a buck for a junk common! Maybe I should have sent in all 30,000 cards haha. I got $200 for them all (and threw in a bunch of memorabilia piees). I just wanted them GONE!

It's truly amazing how WEIRD some people are in this hobby. Then again, maybe not. Every show I've ever been to is filled with a bunch of overweight old guys, or twiggy loser-ish middle-aged guys. No offense meant to anyone who fits either mold, but that's what it is. It's a hobby that has lived for years off of those types of people behind it lol

actually, its probably a very small amount of sellers on comc who are pure weirdos.

Your stereotypes and generalizations would seem to fit the mold of most anywhere in the world. When I go to a show, I see people of all walks of life. I see these same types of people in the mall, at the movies, or at baseball games. Shows are no different.

There used to be someone with the handle Pyweed on one of the other boards and it doesn't make sense that he would do something like this over something that we all agree is a semi-star card.

He used to post large breaks of different Bowman products (5-10 cases) and post a box by box breakdown. He had free contests for everyone and I was a winner of a 2009 Bowman Chrome Freeman refractor auto, which is still tucked safely in my PC. What happened doesn't sound like the Pyweed I used to know.

Be that as it may, if you do not want to deal with him. you can go over to Sportlots and get the same card for under a dollar delivered.

I don't know if it is automatically added for sure, but I don't believe so. Even if it is, you can go in and turn off the option in your profile.

Well, I guess we've had different experiences.

In my 15+ years being involved the hobby, the majority has been like what I stated. Generalizations and stereotypes based on what I've seen/experienced.

You must go to some shows nobody else does. Or, you're possibly fitting of the "mold" I described and blind to that fact.

And there is a lot of weirdos on COMC, whether you agree with that statement or not. There are some great guys too. But there's plenty of weirdos.

sadly i have to agree with paul. I can invite all my friends to the club, golf, beach, party, race, fix my car, fix my house , vacation and even a fight. But i dont dare invite my friends to go to a card show and torture them. The only person that comes with me to a card show is my wife or past girlfriends, they basically watch and trip out.

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you think sports cards are bad, once i dropped my kid off to a pokemon competition when he was 8 years old. i thought it would be all kids his age, i was shocked to see that the majority were adults and not exactly the most outstanding looking bunch of adults. ewwww.

maybe they should have a special card show to improve the image of sports card collectors.

Something like some of the better night clubs have. a person can only enter the card show if you are accompanied by one or more girls/women.

that would be a great promo for a card show.

I just went to the valley forge show right outside of philly. Nothing different than going to a game ( people of all ages, shapes, sizes, etc), except the fact that people were spending a lot more money at the show.

As for friends, why would you invite a noncollector to a show. That would be torture for anyone. Maybe paul is talkin about local firehouse shows and stuff, which I could see happening..i do not frequent those places often.

Doesn't bother me at all man. I don't go to card shows anymore either way lol. And I would never take my gf to one. Baseball cards are for children!

But in all honesty, it's no wonder you were so defensive on the issue - you have nearly 10k cards on COMC!

So you very well might be one of those weirdos I'm thinking of.

Regardless, we're all weirdos. We're on a sports card messageboard with thousands of posts we type to eachother.

I have 11k cards.....feel free to make offers. I do not raise prices after.
but no, I do not fit the apparent stereotype.
