That's a nice 1 of 1. I hate the fact that card companies are still using stickers for autos. The only reason I can see them doing this is, if they send a sheet of blank stickers for the players to sign instead of sending players the actual card to prevent card damage. This way they just have the players send the stickers back for the card companies to put on the card themselves. This seems like the most logical reason but it doesn't explain why you don't see sticker autos on the really high end cards so, I could be totally wrong. Maybe it's just a way to save a bit of money by having the stickers autos instead. Do you know anything about why they do this? For a 1 of 1 I think they should definitely have on card autos.
Nice hit nonetheless |

I have no idea why they do this, but I agree with you 100%.

I don't think it has to do with card quality, it's all about getting the card made. If they have the jersey and the sticker, they know they can make the card. If they are doing on-card signatures, they are at the mercy of the player. That being said, on-card is so much better. It seems to be they can do all on-card with high end sets, so it is possible.

Artifacts has always been stickers, some sets they just always use stickers, regardless of cost. Artifacts and SPx always are stickers, occasionally they throw in a subset or two that actually have on-card. SP Authentic is always, or at least used to be, on-card.

National Treasures football is loaded with sticker autos, aggravating.
Perahaps the damage factor may have something to do with it , I am not sure. But if you would like a glaring example of a good reason to use stickers then go on Eaby and search 2013 Topps Archives Football autos. You can tell just by looking at the cards that they were mailed to the players, signed and then mailed back. Tons of corner damage and edge issues. Not to mention horrible streaking problems with the autos. I have been looking for a clean Haywood Jeffries auto for quite some time and have yet to see a streak free auto. I dislike stickers as much as the next person but if you think the redemption problem is bad now, it would be much worse without stickers. Like someone said up above, it buys the company the right to produce the cards in the manner that works best for them if they can just slap a sticker on it when production is done with card. With stickers the card company controls what happens. With on card autos the players pretty much control what happens. Last edited by cking; 10-22-2014 at 03:48 AM. |
