Which Pokemon….Collect vs. Play / Value vs. Looks(Holo) vs. Rare etc..

Like other people on here unfamiliar with Pokemon cards…..I was wanted to buy some boxes for my daughters yet it is so confusing as to which one to buy. There are too many names xy, flash fire, black & white, etc……… Wanted to know presently as in 2014-2015 was which boxes you should buy should my girls want to collect whether its for value or for good characters or what cards are nice like baseball (chrome/rainbow)? Or for playing should they get into it. For now they are hooked on the cartoon and watch it a lot. So where should I start……Are these even worth anything since I read that older cards aren't good for playing games and such since they get outdated with every new cards coming out? I've been trying to read and understand this Pokemon craze from other forums and youtube videos but am totally lost. Please help me. Thanks

Older cards definitely have value, mainly collector value since as you said they get rotated out of official tournaments.

As for the newer cards the newest sets still in playable format as
XY Base Set
XY Flashfire
XY Furious Fist
XY Phantom Forces

those are in order from oldest to newest with XY Primal Clash set to release near the first week of February.

There are plenty of cool things you can buy them from Collection boxes to Master sets.

One thing that I know lots of kids have on their Christmas list as of right now are these - Pokemon 2014 Collector Chest Tins - 9 Tin Case - $174.95 : Blowout Cards - Sports Cards and Trading Cards Wholesale Online Store

That's for a case but I know Blowout is currently processing getting these set up for individual sale, however I'm sure if you emailed them for an individual box they'd be glad to sell it.
